I want to replace all of the signal and brake bulbs on my bikes with LEDs. Mainly because the stock charging systems on the XS650, and XS400 are shit.

Anyone have any experience with GOOD replacements? I'm looking for ones that are brighter than stock, not dimmer. I mean if the free harbor freight LED flashlights are bright as hell, we should be able to get decent replacement bulbs.

For an 1157 replacement I used Superbright's 1157-R45-T. It's as bright as a stock bulb and has held up well so far...a little pricey though.

Good LED's are pricy, but with almost no draw and last much longer they are much better.

I got one from mikes and thought it was not a very good product plus it caused my brake light to come on on the dash. Will the Superbright not cause the warning light to come on?

Any LED will light the warning light. The warning light tells if the light is blown by how much current draw is present. The LED's draw so little current that the light checker thinks the bulb is blown and lights the warning light. Throw away the light checker and it won't light the warning light no more.

Pumps; yes any LED tailight will cause the Light Checker to light up the "Tail/Brake Failure" red alarm. But that's a good thing. The light checker sees the very low current draw and thinks the bulb is burnt out.

My stock type #1157 tail light bulb drew 600 ma current................my LED tail light (bought at Wal-mart) draws only 73 ma. The brake light went from 1.7 amps down to only 0.142 amps with the LED.

I simply removed the "Tail/Brake Alarm" bulb. With LED's there is no longer any need for a failure alarm light. The LED tail/brake light I bought was designed for trucks and trailers,is DOT approved and rated for 100,000 hours ( 8 hr/day, 5days/week, would take 50 years)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Not sure if I got the answer that I was looking for, but......

I guess I should have been more specific...

I was looking to avoid the $25 LED bulbs, but understand that the $3 LED bulbs are probably shit.

I'll just bite the bullet and but some mid range bulbs from superbright.

When I do I'll TRY to post results.

I've saved a link to this particular mod from our old site archives , 650rider.com, that weekendrider did, using an led tail light from a big truck trailer. I even got an extra tail light assembly to perform the surgery on and if I EVER have time......well you know. He says it is brighter than anything. There is a bit of modifications involved but the results I think will be worth it. If you have seen it before I apologize. I think it kicks ass.
