Hi,
Nathan here. I was wondering if i need to use the Stabil ethonol fuel additive in my XS650 like i did in my 71 DS7 250? I know ethonol is bad for amlost everything.
I got some Stabil given to me. I stil havent been able to afford to get oil filters for my XS yet. been three weeks and every friday the wife says we dont have it to spare. I hate being por. Ive got to use the xs till the snow falls. Its all i got for now.
I noticed the ol XS liked sucking in the cool 48 drgree air tonight. She seemed to have more pep.
Over 250 miles so far. Runslike a sewing machine.
Thanks

wouldn't hurt to run Stabil but it's more for winter storage, a lot of people run SeaFoam as a additive to keep carbs clean... the oil filters on the XS are wire mesh (cleanable) no need to replace unless torn and then most guys just repair with JBweld

Nathan, as long as you're using the bike regularly and running the fuel through, I'd say no. My understanding is that fuel stabilizer mainly extends the life of fuel when it is not being used. I'm told that the marine version can also protect soft parts from alcohol-related degradation with occasional use.

And yup... cold air = more power. :)

cheers, mate!

If your storage is cold and damp stabil won't hurt. If you are like me, start adding it in October sometime because when the season is over the bike just gets ignored till spring. Stabil works best if it is in the whole system not just the fuel tank IE add it, ride the bike then store it. Once the snow hits the roads or the salter has been out that doesn't seem so doable. I don't use it anymore since we got ethanol gas and have no problems. My storage conditions are pretty decent

No staybil for me I have seen the insides of a few outboards that has used it.:yikes: And I wont use it . However I luv seafoam and am using it now my XS and she loves it and so do I:D

Anyone using SeaFoam using it in the engine cases too? It says that it can be used as engine treatment too. I personally have only ever used in the fuel tank. Just curious if it does any good mixing in oil when an oil change is done.

I only run the seafoam thru any of the xs's. I use sta-bil for winter storage though, and fill it all the way up! That ethanol crap attracts moisture which together creats rot. Lotsa folks dont know it but its impossible to get over 98% alcohol(ethanol) distillation, so that shit still has organic matter in it which is what rots.
Its played hell with my four-wheelers and even my Ironhead, my newest ATV is an 04 and it wont run on ethanol gas PERIOD, it needs a fuel additive. This stuff is a gimmick and needs to go the way of the do-do.....
