I have a 1981 Yamaha XS650 that is pretty much all stock that I plan to chop up and make a bobber out of. But today my plans may have changed. Yesterday I found a Harley project on craigslist, and had my dad call about it since he is a factory trained Harley mechanic from the early 80's and knows infinitely more about HDs than me. Well he picked it up today. $3,000. What does that get you? 80" evo motor from a 1990 Heritage Softail with S&S 89" stroker kit, brand new Harley 5 speed transmission, Santee custom softail frame and Fatboy wheels. The guy bought all the stuff, put it together, ran out of money and it's been sitting in a barn for 2 years. The wiring is a bit rough, going to totally rewire it and go from there. The guy made a fiberglass seat pan, needs foam cut and upholstered. Needs paint/powdercoating/blasting on pretty much everything. Finish work, yall know wassup. Very open to comments/tips/criticism, any of that shit. On to the pics.

NICE find/buy!! Rewire and a seat and your down the road!!

Not quite, the guy had only ever fired it, still need to check the trans alignment and get the brake lines and some other small stuff. But thanks! I think it's a hell of a find.

Yeah I might a bought it if I saw it near me. I don't know shit bout Harleys though and would be really scared of finding out it was just a pile of parts that didn't go together. How nice your dad was able to put his  stamp on it! I'd find a spoke for the front............

Thanks Gary. I have never been a fan of the fatboy wheels, but I am kind of liking them. I have always been a huge fan of spoked wheels, so there may be some down the line once money comes.

Oddly, I like the solid in the rear, just not on the front.

You know what Gary, I would agree with you IF and only if I went 21" or more spoke up front with no brake. Maybe with a brake, would have to see a similar setup.

Let me be the first to say "YOU SUCK".

Nice find.

Ebola, thanks man. I do suck, this is just one of many retarded finds within about 14 months. I don't mind sucking to get these kind of deals.

I got a chubby just looking at that! I love the lines, apes, pipes well, everything. Awesome find!

Thanks Spank, I am not a huge Harley fan, and go against pretty much the "in" things, but I liked this one myself. Really like the lines of the tank with the frame, not huge on the apes, but the pipes I can dig. Gonna blast them and then who knows. Maybe finish them off with some brass tips.

:thumbsup: sweet fine, put a 80 spoke,16" run the disc on back , redo the caddy tail light to the side. Nice thing is they are eazer to work on than metric's LOL  What year is the frame?

I have to decide if I am keeping it once it's built, but I am leaning towards it. The frame is a Santee D&D 180 Softail, they still make it, but I think this one is a 2005-2007. Not sure, my dad has all the paperwork and I haven't seen the MSO. It's hard for me to really have a vision as to where I want to go with this project as I have been immersed in XS650s for the past year and a half, and I never even thought of building a Harley. But I am going to build it with what I have for it now, ride it and can come up with direction somewhere down the line.

I know how much you guys love softails, so I don't want to keep yall waiting too long. I found a local shop that had some things I needed for the build. I was able to pick up a Le Pera Silhouette Bullet solo seat for $50 and bought some tins off what looks like a Fat Boy style bike for $400. Included the tank and the dash setup, off a 2007. Not really my style, but the whole setup was $400 and will work for now just to get the bike on the road. Same guy also was able to sell me some great looking OEM cases for my bike for half what Harley wants for the exchange program. So I got the tins home today and mocked them up just to get a feel for what it would looking like. Here it is.
