Cold weather gear

I have a pair of Hein Gericke rider's gloves that I have had for about 10 or 15 years. Good Quality, but not warm below 45 degrees. That has never been a problem since I don't ride in 45 degree temps.

Leather mittens with fuzzy lining. They were about $12 at a work clothes store. I can't remember the brand I have. They have a layer of plastic between the fuzz and leather, for water-tightness. Good into the 30s at least, and you can put in hand warmer packs if you want.

I've had these leather gloves for a few years now. The "Thinsulate" insulation makes them quite warm. I bought them at the annual Calgary Motorcycle show for $20.00, which is a real good price. Leather gloves at Calgary motorcycle shops are a minimum of $50.00.

I used them this summer on a trip through the mountains in BC. It rained for 3 of the 5days. The gloves kept my hands dry for about the first 2.5 hours, but eventually the rain got through the gloves. I just dryed them out each evening in the hotel, and they were good to go the next day.

I have about a 30 min ride to work the hot packs would work but I would have to have a truck load of them. Lol. I have a pair of North Polar gloves but at around 32 or 33 digress there done. Lol I wondering what all the snowmobile riders use? Last year I was dubbling up my gloves but they was hard to move my hands and the feel was pretty much 0 lol or maybe the -4 temp was the deal. Lol

Most of the guys who ride during the winter in N.E.Ohio use electric heated gloves, vest and socks. My son-in-law rides a 650 Suzuki dual-sport almost everyday with the aid of a heated vest. Your charging system on your bike has to be able to support the heated gear. Here are some examples.

The heated vest is a must if you want to keep your body core temperature up.

I could see going with the electric gloves and stuff if it was a longer ride but man you could wrap up some cash in that stuff quick!!

Well, each year I go to Home Depot and see what gloves they have for construction workers. This year it was a great pair of "Thinsulate" gloves for $9.95

I've worn these gloves over the past week when the temperature here got down to 50F. I used to ride at 40F with a beard, but those days are over. I have increased my threshold of pain one degree per year for the pat ten years and I'm now up to 50F, but only if the sun is shinning.

When riding in very cold weather, you have to take into consideration the effect of low temperature on the engine as well. I would suggest that 50F is the lowest temperature that you should operate the engine.

I ride my 1980 CX500 daily to work since my xs is still not operational. 25 miles each way in CT (merritt pkwy) at 6:15 in the am and then around 3- to 5pm in the afternoon. The mornings this week week were in the mid 30s, the afternoons in the 50s.

On the bottom--I wear a pair of silk-weight longjohns under levis, good redwing boots with wool socks. On the top a Patagonia fleece, a leather jacket (a thin calf skin one when it's over 35 or a thicker, padded motorcycle specific one under) and a carhartt insulated vest over it. Leatherup "Cold" zip off gauntlet gloves. Above freezing I'll wrap a scarf around my face, throw a beanie under the Bell and head to work. I wear glasses so I hate full face helmets, though I have an old Arai when it's messy or super cold.

The warmer your core, the warmer your fingers. I'm not overly impressed with these gloves, but I also drink beer at night and coffee in the morning... so...

The third bike will eventually be an old BMW R something with all the heated clothing plugs retrofitted... then I can get rid of my truck.

Gerbings heated vest, and gloves. The KLR and Versys see all my real word riding duties. XS isnt out unless it's warmer out..but not boiling hot.

I ride my sv to work daily the xs is my summer ride. Lol Should be around 28 when I get my butt out of bed Wed morning
