Hi everybody, have been so impressed with this site its fantastic and needed to register. I have recently bought a stock 75 XS650 (roadster) Had one years ago and loved it till a dentist knocked me off ! Have started the restoration and along with a bucket full of nightmares, i discovered the carbs have had the diaphragms removed  so need to get more (which is not easy in the UK). Can any one tell me how do I identify whether I have BS38 or BS34 carbs! Mine are individual carbs and only linked by tubes. Thanks for your help in advance.

If they are individual they are probably xs1/xs2 solex carbs, just looked on the mikexs site, looks like the bs38 diapragm fits

Hi thanks for the reply ! I thought Solex carbs always had the name printed on them and these definitely say Mikuni. Got a feeling they are BS34 s but unsure and dont want to spend loads on the wrong thing this side of Christmas the kids would never forgive me.

Thanks everybody excellent advice, found out they are BS38 s and now need to find the diaphragms. Anyone know who is reasonable and ships to the UK ?

just had a quick look & wemoto & bike buissiness in the UK list them, does not say what make tho & these can be affected by modern fuel. Best bet may be the genuine Mikuni ones listed on Heiden Tuning in Holland, an XS650 expert who ships to the UK, Ive used them loads, cost 70 euros each mind but pattern ones are over £50 here's the link http://www.xs650.biz/p/28/2366/mo74...-diaphragm-assembly-for-mikuni-bs38-cv-carbs-

Just to let you all know my diaphragms arrived today from JBI and the new battery is on charge so the escape to the workshop planned for the Christmas holidays has all come together. Thanks to everyone who has given excellent advice so far and I will be back shortly with lots more questions.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY !

This is an old thread I know but I just bought a set of 0 mileage bs38s tht have been sitting on a shelf in a dealers for 40 years they are early ones I'm sure as they have the dual throttle cables. I'm wondering if there's a way to tell what year they are. theres a number stamped on the carb body that I've never come across before it is 533-00. There's a 120 main jet in it and there are no top ends or diaphragms in the carbs.
