Joining the XS650 world!

A few weeks ago I converted my Bing Rewards points to Amazon Gift Cards and bought a new back tire with them. Cost to me-- $0. Yesterday I got $10 off a front tire by converting Bing Rewards to Amazon Gift Cards. All in all it came out to 2 new Shinko radials for $40.oo.

Amazon even has used parts available through their various vendors.

I can't say how long it will last but right now I am loving that Shinko rear tire.

That's pretty awesome! I totally forgot that I actually have like $20 in Amazon gift cards..Haha

On black bars you might lose the ground path for the bar switches.

Ah okay. I thought that the paint might cause issues, but I figured that I might be able to sand a few spots, but I'm totally cool with chrome bars. :D

But alrightey, today is round 2 with the hardware stores!

I actually accept Amazon Gift Cards as payment for things I do online.

I used to make quite a chunk through the Amazon affiliate program until North Carolina and Amazon had a spat and Amazon dumped it's NC affiliates. Travis, are you paying attention?

Best way to fix the charging system is to swap it into the permanent magnet alternator like the one sold by Huges hand built.

Trust me, I reallyy want to do that eventually. But I'd rather spend the $300 to get it running in tip top shape and getting it to look a bit more how I'd like it to first.

Bill, what kind of work do you do online?

I've had absolutely no luck with finding any carbon brushes locally today. I think I'm just going to have to order a set from Mikes. Suucks.

So my clubmans came in today! Despite having some issues with rerouting the extra long clutch cable, I managed to get them on. I still have to mess with the throttle cable a bit, as it sticks every so often.

I'll be buying a rotor from Gary soon, as I'm basically 85% sure that my issue is caused by the rotor, since I got crap readings from it. That and I'd like to put some blame on my brushes, too. Uneven wear and they just need to be replaced. Everything else seems fine.

I also bought a new fuse holder from Radioshack..I decided to take the easier route and just stick with the glass fuses for now. I'll switch to the other fuses later eventually. hah

But anyway, here's a picture of how she sat before and now!

The next thing I'd like to do is make a seat like Tron's. Just gotta get my hands on a skateboard..

But man, I realllyy do like how much better the bike looks with just changing the handlebars. Another good thing for me is that the riding position doesn't seem too bad so I don't need to buy rear sets just yet!

If you guys can't see the pictures, please let me know!

On your cables, get a standard cable for the clutch. Lube the throttle, might help the sticking.
The brushes will wear uneven. The inner brush doesn't travel as far per revolution as the outside brush. On the 80 up brushes the metal mount strip is the same on both brushes so you can swap them inner to outer to even out the wear.
If you went to R/S and got a new fuse holder, you should have just got the blade type fuse holder to start with. That way you won't have to change it again.
Your pics came through fine. The bars sure do change the look of the bike.

The clutch cable has actually been pretty darn good to me lately.
Same as the throttle! Not sticking as much, and I haven't even lubed it yet..I'll do it soon. hah

I need to address my front brake lever, though. It's a bit stiffer than I'd like.

BUT, I managed to find a used rotor at a local salvage yard for $40 and it has solved my charging system issue. Hopefully it'll last me a while!

But now I get to focus my attention into making a new seat finally!
I'm going to be looking for some other turn signals, too.
I'd also like to get my hands on a 2-1 exhaust..

I was thinking about lowering the headlight as well, but it seems like the bracket is literally attached to the forks. hah

New tires are definitely going to happen soon, though. Apparently I've got a front tire on my rear wheel..hah.

Git that seat goin man!

Looks like your headin in the right direction..

That green honda is sooo wicked.
