On the front of the gas tank are 2 rubber 'discs'. They mate up with 2 metal cups attached to the frame. On the xs650 i just bought, those 2 cups need to be attached to the frame. What size or thread are the 3 screws that do this?

I could really use a parts book but can't seem to find one. I have many misc parts in plastic bags from the previous owner. Does anone know where I can find a parts book to sort thisstuff out??

Thanks,
Beeza

The cups are usually welded to the frame. If there are 3 holes, those are the spot welds that have been drilled out (I removed my cups which is why I know this).

You could use a bolt like these running from cup-to-cup through the frame to attach them and leave a flush surface for the rubber pucks.

Or weld the cups back on.

Have you tried clicking on the link above that says "XS650 Tech" ? Probably most of your questions have been asked before. There are links to those topics. Also a link to a manual and parts break downs with part number. The search feature is a great tool too. Buy a manual when you get a chance.

There are no parts to look up. He's asking about the cups for the front tank mounts that have been removed from his frame. They're welded on originally. Looking for ideas to remount them.

"I could really use a parts book but can't seem to find one."

I understand that the tank mounts are removed and he would like to re-mount them.
But if he wants to look at parts breakdowns he should try looking in the tech section. It might save him some time asking questions if he can look for himself. If he has parts he doesn't know where they go the breakdown will help don't you think?
I might suggest that your model year of XS be put into your signature so if you have a question someone who responds will know what year you are talking about .

Absolutely - without a doubt. I was focused on the immediate question rather than his larger problem of not having the manuals etc.

I'd never wade into working on a bike without both the OEM Service Manual and Parts Diagrams.

Exactly. I learned this valuable lesson many years ago while working on my brother's Honda 100 dirt bike. We split the cases and all the gears fell out on the table, lol.

Most of the online parts sellers like boats.net have the parts fiches that show the parts breakdowns. That help a lot when assembling something from a pile of parts.

I just snapped a pic of the cups on my 82 frame. If you measure from the inside of the front curved part of the cup back to the center of the stud the rear of the tank goes over mine reads 20.25 inches, maybe slightly more.

Thanks Leo. there are marks on the frame where they used to be.

I need to get a couple flat bolts and nuts to hold them on.
