How to: Brat style flat seat on the cheap!

The seat is now done, although i'm not a 100% happy with it. The seams are not entirely symmetric. Will post pics with the seat on the bike as soon as I'm done with some other details. I do recommend this way of doing the seat though. Basically a sheet of metal, cut out to fit the frame and then apply foam in the thickness you like. Fairly cheap and easy, even for a novice like myself.

What gauge sheet metal did you use?

Rear fender mock up, but now you can also see the seat on the bike. Not bolted though, so when it's done it'll be closer to the frame.

Thanks! :D
Now i just have to decide wether to go with a white rear fender or paint it black. Don't want to the bike to look to much like a furniture so i'm leaning towards black

Pretty much done for the season
Seat fitted, new rear fender and light, new turn signals and new off road foot pegs

Depends what you were spelling :) nothing in swedish anyway :)
It's foam with hundreds of small pieces compressed together. Quite dense. Comes in many different thicknesses (?). Next time i'll go for a type thats a bit easier to file and shape.

Finally had some time today to make a cardboard template!

Looks like I may have to invest in a new dremel because I've got some cutting I need to do..

How's the underside of your seat looking EWAN and Tron?
I'm assuming I'll be all right once I remove that little tab that holds the seat up on its side and relocate the fuse box. I should be able to get the new seat frame to sit flush with the frame after that. Oh! Also gotta get rid of the stock rear fender, too, I guess. I'll have to hit up a local junk yard to find a different one.

EWAN, what'd you do to remove the rear tabs where your turn signals were originally on?
Did you guys also cut off the seat/helmet key section?

Well some work was done by the PO, such as the helmet holder and some relocating of the electrics. As far as the rear "wings" for the fender and turn signals, i just cut them of with a tool i don't know the american name for :) I then made 2 new tabs that i placed on the inside of the rear shocks. I actually bought number sign, used on houses, and cut it to my liking. It had the right bend to follow the lines of the bike. Number zero. :)

I've seen guys keep the old tabs and hammer down the original fender, which i think works quite well to. I decided to cut them of and go with an old front fender as a rear fender. The problem with that is the rear frame goes up quite a bit at the end, so you new fender will be quite a bit lower than the original one. Depending on how you decide to attach it of course.

Best advice i can give is to do a bunch of different mock ups to see what you like best before you start cutting away.

As you can see my rear fender is quite narrow compared to the tyre, i plan to go with a 120 tyre next time. Will go for Bridgestone Trail Wings to get more of a scrambler feel to it.
Also take in to consideration that the thin seat will not swallow a lot of vibration and any longer rides will punish your butt :)

One thing to think about is you ability to beat the rear of the seat to control the stock fender. If you do so, the stock fender (or aftermarket) can fit up inside the rear hoop, allowing for a cleaner look.

Yeah, i considered that first, but decided not to. Didn't want it chrome and didn't want to keep the tabs(?) holding the fender.

Im running the trail wings..i like them alot..but they are a bit scary on the street in the rain..
Ive got a tw42 on the back, and tw39 on the front.
