I like that 71. Looks like a bit of a jumble of years and parts. Is that motor original and painted or newer? I've always liked the look of an old brit or xs that was cut down by the owner for a lighter hot rod type bike. You'll have to show pics with the original tank.

Motor is original 71. Frame and motor have matching #'s. Tank is off of a 77 and just sold on ebay today. My plan is to put the original tank w/emblems, sidecovers, and original seat on it and paint it black instead of the candy orange/yellow color of the original xs1b. I eventually want to have the wheels powdercoated black with chrome spokes and go for a black and chrome xs1b (hot rod type bike) as you call it. Wanting to buy the original style springs and paint them black as well and probably end up painting the lower forks and putting fork boots on it

something kind of like this....this is a very quick sloppy photoshop job

Here is my XS. Just got it last week and I am beginning the process of learning about this machine. Just ordered upgraded rotor, new caliper and brake lines for the front. Next is some elbow grease and fluid changes...waiting for parts.

A 79 Special done from a rust bucket. Everything was redone, including the motor. Boyer ignition, VM34 Mikunis, 520 chain. Powdercoated frame, etc. I did everything but the Powdercoat. We rode it about 6000 miles, and sold it to fund some more. I've got several, one hardtail in process, but seem to spend my spare time riding more than working on the projects.

I think that's a good thing. Very nice..I see lots of blood sweat and tears there.

Made them. 1-1/4 aluminum turned and milled. The center is turned to use some rubber sleeves that I use for woodturning tools that I make and sell.

Here's my '79 Special, made some simple changes and it looks exactly how I wanted it; I'm hard pressed to find any bike I like to look at more than this one. -j

Los D, I really like the stance of your bike. It looks mean! I also like the tires. Are they Kenda dual sport tires?

Me too. Great bike for running the backroads.

I think those are Bridgestone Trailwings. Decent tire for on/off road but they suck in the rain.

My 74 TX650A Mostly stock except handlebars and Pamco ignition. finally got the first 120 miles on it and it has been great.
