May 27th, 10:35 p.m, nice pic of my mate Tajan van der Wiel, aboard our Motorsport Harlingen team's tuned XS650. On one of the oldest bikes at the meeting, we finished in very good shape, against a host of four cilinder 1000 cc superbikes of the late seventies and early eighties. Half of them did not finish, but we did.

The drag pipes give good performance, but keep on hitting the tarmac. We're working on high pipes now.

Other features of the bike: 750 pistons, racing conrods, tuned cams, 36 mm Dell'Orto's, reinforced standaard chassis, alloy rims, double discs, one of the best brakes in the field. 7.500 revs in 5th at the end of the long straight. End speed around 190 kph. Lighting aboard, because the finish was in the dark.

The rider: started racing again, after more than 30 years without riding a racing bike.

Well, let me say that 30 years of not racing doesn't seem to have messed with his skills! 190 kph (118 mph to us colonists) is really moving. Congratulations, and keep us posted on future successes!

The High pipes will not hit the ground but I might try a longer rear shock and slide the front forks back down in the trees to gain more ground clearance.
Hitting the pipes that have some give is better than hitting the frame that has no give.
Very cool to see pics of an XS650 being ridden like that. Well done.
