G&L choppers

Thought I would chime in. I got my bike a few months ago. It still doesn't run right. I'm actually buying another bike this week that's from a shop, and runs so the whole summer doesn't pass me by. On the up side Ive been dieing to ride so bad that I can rationalize all the cash I have thrown to the wind. Wish I had my 6Gs+ back though

Last message from Rich was back in March, claiming that the build would finally be finished and delivered in May 12'... (2 years later.)
Obviously, May has come and gone and I've called a few times & sent a couple more emails but still haven't received another response.
I'll post another update here, if and when I ever receive one.

Update:
I've heard recently from (5) different local, Colorado guys, that the G&L shop isn't even around anymore but actually just got another new message today from somebody else, that claims it's definitely still there, up & running.

I'm not sure what to believe but... after 2+ years of waiting and still no response from Rich... I reluctantly filed a complaint today with the BBB.

Hopefully, now maybe I'll at least get a phone call from him and we can figure this all out.
It sucks that it had to come to this.

And the wait continues...

Well if it makes you feel any better my bike doesn't even run. It sits in the corner of my garage and I have since bought a new bike. Over the winter I plan on tearing it down and learning how to fix the engine. I consider it a total loss for me even though I got the bike. I would have preferred to give 6000 to charity.

what will the BBB do? 2 years is way to long and I wouldn't be waiting around still, I'd try and get my money back.

they must be working out of the RV...

Who knows how old that pic is

call the number and see if it is still for rent.
here is my .02 I have had a street rod shop, and 2 years is a long wait, but it has taken me 4 years to build a ground up 30-A 5 window. but the customer stoped by all the time to seehow it was comming.and I talked to him all the time. now that said 2 years for a bike is too long.but I can under stand why.I still have customers calling me to build cars for them. some of them begging. the last car build was in 1997.I got burnd out working 17 hours a day( 8 hours real job fixing chevy's and 9 hours building dreams.)
good luck :bike:

DirtyDog, I might actually be okay with waiting years for a custom bike but not without any contact from the builder or without having some input or control over the build.

I'd love to get my money back at this point, Huyner. Not sure the BBB will do anything, I'm just trying to make contact.

Man I was soooo close to loosing my money. I got the bike but it doesn't work. Looking back, I would let him keep my 3000 deposit if I could get the other 3000 back. Bike looks good. To bad it runs like shit.

I hear you man...
My bike now sits in my Dad's shop (he is a heavy duty mechanic by trade) he is tearing the bike done now trying to figure out what it is wrong with it and why it will not run. Each passing week that i talk to him he finds more and more wrong with it.

Wish it was that easy

End of the day several/many of us have gotten scammed by Rich/G&L Choppers. Hard to get your money back when the guy will not return calls/emails and is rarely/ever at the shop.

Last time i talked to him (in Dec) he actually hadnt been in the shop for OVER 4-6 months (never informed me of this fact even though i had asked him directly several times).

For someone like myself (who lives far away) even if i was to go down to the shop and camp out there i am lucky if i would even catch him.

In the beginning Rich seemed (and may have even been) a stand up guy. He returned calls/emails within 48 hours. Hell the guy even drove 6 hours out of his way to pick up my donor bike. Rich gave every indication that he was trust worthy.

But things have changed. He is no longer that person
He has F$#ked multiple people out of THOUSANDS of dollars and at this point we really have little or little recourse!

Some of us (including myself) have managed to get in contact with his friends/former employees and even they have not heard from him in MONTHS!

I totally agree...

Problem was that Rich was never honest/up front about wait times.
If he would have told me up front that it was a 18 month + wait that would have been fine. Then i could have made an informed decision.

Also if he just would have been honest about things during the process then i could have maybe have a little more understanding...
But when he keeps promising "a couple more weeks" then drops off the face of the earth for 4 months...
Hard to be understanding

I even gave him the option to back out a couple of times.
But he would not...promising that my bike would get done.
In reality what had prob happened is that he had already spent my money and had no refund to give

Actually that shop picture is on the back side of the building where the f150 and bike are sitting. Someone should go and check on the place to see whats up, Hes paying rent on the place so he has to be using it for something? Looks like they used to do quite a few bikes, then just peterd off..

I dropped by the shop yesterday after work. The Google street view pic above is actually the west side of the building, whereas G&L is on the east side. There's an A/C shop next to that For Lease sign and I stopped in and asked that guy what the deal was. He said that Rich was probably gone (it was about 5:30 pm) and that he usually didn't stay that late, but that he did great work and was hella busy. I got the impression that, to the best of his knowledge, the A/C guy thought that G&L was open daily. Take that for what it's worth. I then drove around the building and the storefront is still there, just like it appears in the pic above with the bikes. I took a couple pics of it and my Tacoma in front; if anyone wants to see them, I can post them off my phone. Blinds were down so I couldn't see inside, though.

So, detective work accomplished to some degree. I usually get done with work around 4:30 or 5 and the shop isn't really on my way home, so I'm not sure that I could catch him during shop hours, but the shop itself is definitely still there. It's right across the alley from a bowling alley/lounge and right up the parking lot from a gay bar.

Need anything else, hit me up and I'll see what I can do.

Well, thanks again for the advice & feedback guys.
And Ashaman... thanks a ton for going over there man! I definitely appreciate it.
It's pretty cool that there are guys on these forums willing to go out of the way, just to check things out for you.
I might actually make the trip out there now, I'm just not sure if I should consider possibly talking to a lawyer and maybe set up a court date first. I obviously don't want to go down that road but I don't know what good could come out of me confronting Rich at his shop.
I've really tried to be patient but I think 2 1/2 years is enough and he STILL refuses to answer my calls.
I haven't actually spoken to Rich since Sept, 10'. And I've only received (3) short emails from him TOTAL since I sent him my XS and the $4k back in April of 2010.
Not to mention, he never even acknowledged the changes I wanted to make to the build along the way.
Ironically, I actually stood up for the guy, years ago on another forum, when someone questioned his shop on their build time.

It's like adding insult to injury.
And the wait continues...

Thanks again to everybody.

Well, kind of as a last ditch effort, I sent out an email last week to "The Horse" BackStreet Choppers Magazine. They featured G&L back in the July 09' issue... where I first saw them and I asked if they had any recent info regarding the shop.

Jordan Z., editor from The Horse, actually replied and told me that he phoned G&L himself to find out what's going on and miraculously, Rich immediately answered the call.

Supposedly, they spoke at length about where he's been, why he hasn't been building lately and also, about my bike in particular. Rich apparently stated that he's been nursing a shoulder injury but that he's actually working on my bike "right now."

Jordan said he mentioned that I was trying to get a hold of him, gave him my number and told him to give me a call asap to work things out.

I'm not sure if it'll do any good but it was pretty cool of Jordan to give him a call for me and to find out some more info. He seems like stand-up guy and I definitely appreciate the effort.

Still, no word from Rich.

I'm not taking sides and I hate to throw gas on the fire here, but I emailed G&L back in the spring asking about his mid controls. I got an email back two hours later. The second email I sent was answered in four days, so someone is reading the emails at least.

Yeah the guys at "The Horse" are stand up guys.

Rich is good at answering the phone when he wants to. I could not get a response from him for months. I was out of town (different phone number) and tried calling him...and wouldnt you know it...he picked up the phone no problem.
This tells me that he is screening calls.
If it is someone that he owes work to...he does not answer/return the call.
If it is someone important (no a customer! But someone from "The Horse") or a new customer he will answer.
