My Street Tracker project

The first pic is the bottom of the steel tank DT tank that 1974jh5,SWLXS650, and metalcrafter are putting on their bikes.

The second pic ic the bottom of the aluminum MX? tank, that I am trying to fit with minimal mods to the tank except for petcocks:

Notice that the steel tank has much more of a bottom surface on the sides to install petcocks. I didn't notice that till I compared my aluminum tank to the steel tank pics. Another dilemma now.

I would try a 90 degree open fitting out of the tank to a remote petcock. The petcock can be as simple as an 'on/off' valve or a real remote (with reserve) taken from certain models of jet skis, 4 wheelers, or (I think) some models of the CR450 honda.

All bolt on stuff with no welding.

Well, I made my tank choice. Ordered a Champion 750 tank from Jake, at Grand Prix Speed Works. Taking his word on the ethanol safe issue. It won't be here till early July. The madness, as in $$ spent, never ends!

That's probably the easiest way to go and a very good looking tank. I'll post pictures of mine as soon as it is complete. My tig skills are not good enough to do a tank properly, so I'm waiting for a buddy of mine to weld it.

just, stopped in to check on the progress. looked over the photos, once again, really, impressed with the 'electrics' mounted to the battery box. as usual, nice, professional work, Dave.

Thanks Mike. My skills are nothing, put up against many on this site. You are gonna have to ride up here to look it over and give me some real dirt tracker tips. Long way to go.

These came today. #24 bend dirttrack bars I was told. Lower and dropped at the ends compared to the old Z1 bars I had on.

Pay no attention to those checkered grafix. Had them sitting around for many years from a old snowmobile project. Had a few beers last Saturday and started playing around

Racerdave, did you fill in the space behind the emblem or patch it or what, I've been wondering how to handle that issue. Thanks

Removed the Shinko 705 110/80/19 for the Maxis 27x7x19. Much wider and racier looking. This is both tires on the skinny Yammie 19 inch front wheel.:

Tough work for this old guy getting that wide Maxis on the skinny Yammie 19 inch rim. My 37 year old tire irons and several Bud Lights and lots of effort got it on.

Hi Dave, incredible aesthetic upgrade! A few quick questions..
Are the sidewalls bulging on the narrow rim?
Will the maxxis work with the oem swingarm width?
Does it fit the front as well or rub the fork legs?

Turn left, the sidewalls are bulging I guess. I've tried to get a good pic, but just can't get one that shows up like what the naked eye see's. It does fit with the oem swingarm, that is what I have on. Clears swingarm by a 1/4 or so. I don't have one on the front, but it will also clear the forks. Check Pregrids build, he's the tracker guru and he has them on his front and rear, same wheels and tires.

Ya know, I've been called a lot of things in my life, but never a guru. :D Not sure that's true but....................I got my tires from A&A Racing here in the bay area. These tires are made to fit the skinny wheels we have on our Yamahas and also the early BSAs and Triumphs, etc.

All those goodies above, along with Vesrah HD clutch springs and a EZ pull clutch cable came from 650 Central. What a wealth of knowledge and tips for a XS650, Michael Mercury Morse is. Great guy to talk to.
