Well I dragged home an 81 Special II yesterday. So I started at front wheel and cleaned down one side till I hit the back and came back up the other side. Making notes of need to do's should do's and want to do's as I went. The oil was over the window so I bet you know what the dipstick smelled like. I cleaned the carbs and they going back together. Varnish had pretty much everything plugged up and the float o-rings were not holding back gas. Spark is bright, compression 145, 150. Not bad for a cold engine that hasn't run decent if at all in a long time. Typical Wisconsin shed bike, rusty rims and some chrome has seen better days but the rubber parts, seat, paint, and plastic are good, bonus; inside of the gas tank is shiny!
Oil and filters tomorrow and I'll see if she runs. Swing arm is OK, steering bearings aren't even notchy yet!
30 years old and 5,600 miles on it.

What did you work on today?

around 7:30 am I installed a rear ABC (active body control) valve block on an MB S600
around 9:45am I install new lower control arm bushings on same MB S600
around 11:00am I replaced a blower regulator on a MB C230
12pm took lunch
around 1pm did front brake pads and rotors on same C230 (upsold the job :)
around 2pm did a diesel fuel filter on an MB ML320 CDI
around 2:45 replaced turbocharger inlet seal on same ML 320 CDI
around 3pm replaced rear brake pads on same ML 320 CDI
around 4pm I removed the front diff from same ML 320 CDI (need to remove the diff to replace the steering rack)
5PM I WENT HOME....

that's a typical day for me.. atleast I didn't deal with any electrical b.s today..

turning wrenches all day sucks ass... (but it pays the bills and I work on high line vehicles)

I have the cylinder head off my Volvo 760 Turbo. Today, I finished up on a mild port job and lapped the valves. Tomorrow I'll start reassembling the head and take the turbo off and start tearing into it. Hope to have it back on the road by week's end.

Finished up prepping the 81 special for a ride from home though Yellowstone Park to Jackson WY and Back home. Looks to be nearly 400miles Wow.
No Rain today and 10% chance tomorrow so we will probably make it without getting wet.

The Left muffler was loose, adjusted the chain, tire pressure.
Charging system is working good,

still lean on the main jets but its getting close, and wont be to hot tomorrow.

Even if i get wet it will be nice to get away from work.

But I'm not in my normal Riding shape I have only ridden the bike 150 miles lots of Rain!
:)

jim, I just got some pics from the welder, as soon as I get a sec i'm going to start a build thread.. things are running smoothly.

Had to replace engine wiring harnesses on a 95 SL600 about a month ago. A 21 hour nightmare. Like you said though, it pays the bills.

Made a headlight mount. ....... twice. Was gonna start a mount for a reg/ rec but it was too late.

well its only 8:30 a.m., but yesterday I worked on
a. our big Challenge paper cutter here at work
(dude I work with talked me into trying to run it with a hunk of copper in place of a fuse...dumb dumb dumb)
b. the XS....I bent some clamps which will be used to hold s.s. elec "cannister" to same tube of frame that the seat springs will mount to.
Also realize its kind of gotten too hot to do much more on it this summer. 95 + humidity here in Tampa yesterday. Hoping when rainy season kicks in that we will have some cooler afternoons.

Hope you're all having fun!

Cut the tunnel out of a new mustang tank! Lowered it about 3 inches in the front. I got the foam cut out for my seat. I still need to glue it and shape it. (I can't glue it to the pan until I get the seat mounts welded in.) I picked up the parts for my generator yesterday, so I should be back in welding business today!

Soo some of us that are following your thread should expect to see some pics? :wink2:

I'm glad you said that. I almost forgot my camera. Yeah. I'll have a few up tonight or in the morning, depending on how late I work on it tonight.

ehh,,, let me guess, oil in the harness... I don't mind working on 129's but my bread n butter is the R230. down here in south florida all the cars are either 55's 63's or 600's. i haven't touched a 203 in like 2 weeks.

Emz - how did the clamps turn out?

I wrenched on the XS, cleaning the frame up for paint. Smoothing out the welds and filling some areas with more weld and making it look good. Next is painting the frame.
