checking valve clearances

Of those choices, I personally would try Mike's. The reasons are as follows - first, it's so odd that there must be a reason for it :) Second, you are tuning it for durability, not performance, and the largest gap should give the best cooling.
 
im having trouble keeping my valves from making noise. I went .006 on exhaust and .0025 on the intake. .004 was really loud. the bottom of the feet are in good shape, hardly any wear. can i put blue thread locker on the fastening nut? can i go smaller on the exhaust valve?

Thanks for all the advice over the last 6 months. Just joined the forum yesterday. Cafe'd a 1980 xs650 special. Race Tech valves, progressive springs, progressive gas shocks, brembo lever, new caliper and pads, yz clutch lever, ez pull much advice from 650 central forum and Mike of www.650central.com. You're all top notch. I'm hooked. My poor family. Adjusting valves today, intake = .10mm exhaust=.15mm
