If I am running a stock alternator with a pamco ignition, and I want to be able to run my lights, blinkers, and horn and kickstart only, can I drop a smaller size battery or do i need to banshee swap in order to achieve this goal? Im shooting for a pretty small battery. pack of cards or maybe a bit bigger:shrug:

Since you are not going to be powering a starter motor you should be well within the amp budget of the stock charging system. The battery isn't doing much more than providing the juice needed at start-up to energize your alternartor and the coils that come with the PAMCO will fire with less volts than the stock coils anyway.

I use ballistic batteries and they are awesome. The 8 cell is about half the size of a normal battery and it weighs 1 1/2 pounds and more then enough juice to spin a stock xs starter motor. If you are going kick only you can do the 4 cell. That thing is tiny. The best part is you can mount it any direction you want and it has a three year warranty. Charges just like a normal battery as well. They are pricey but after vibrating to death more then a few batteries I made the switch to them and have never looked back. Well worth the extra dough IMHO.

Have you had good luck with the 4cell on a kick only bike?

I have not tryed the 4 cell on a kick only bike because I always run a starter too. The 8 cells are so small I figure why not have both. I cant imagine that they could be bad though considering how much the 8 cells kick ass.

I'm running the Ballistic EVO2 50 (the smallest 4-cell) with zero problems. Kick-only, but 55w/60w H4 headlight, full lights, horn, etc. I do have a PMA from Hugh though...

I mounted the battery in a very inhospitable location/position, and it's doing just fine.

Not necessarily smaller in physical size, but I recently replaced my battery with a Shorai Lithium, which weighs about as much as the cardboard box that my last BikeMaster battery came in. Really! The Shorai's expensive, but it's got alotta cranking power, is totally maintenance-free and should last 2-3 times longer than standard batteries.

I have heard good things about antigravity batteries.

Im personally running a 3a/h gel cell and its fine. Small, lightweight, and I still have the stock charging system. I get nervous sitting in traffic for long periods of time though, as the bike is not charging at idle. Its never failed me though!

I was thinking of using the Ballistic 8 cell, but it seems that there is special maintenance required for long battery life. Here is what I read on the Ballistic Website:
There is no special charger required, but periodic balance charging the 8 Cell EVO2 with our Ballistic Performance Components BMS charger will greatly extend the life of the battery.

The special charger is about $80.00.

Is it really necessary?

Thanks.

I havent purchased any special charger. I did put a trickle charge on one though and it charged fine. They come with a 3 year warranty. I think as the time goes by the warranty is pro rated but still not bad even if you got a few bucks back. I lost a few batteries to vibrations and bad cells and what not so I figure even if I got 3 years from a ballistic I would still be way ahead of the game. So far i could not be happier with mine.

i use this batt for kick only, been riding for one season now and still going strong and at that price i can afford to change it, think i paid 100 kr thats about 20 dollars.

fits in the frame under the seat. (the blue is the velcro for the batt).
