homemade cafe seat ideas

Oh yeah, I had to cut that piece off rubber that sits on the bottom of the tank and fits around that bolt sticking up, I cut it right where the tank ends and then superglued it to the frame so the tank will keep off the frame. If you dont do this the tank will make a hell of a racket while you ride. and it keeps the petcocks off the tops off the carbs. plus it just looks right with the rubber under there. if you need pics i can take some.

Thanks for that. The rivnut is something new to me and is a solution to the problem that I was thinking over. I've started off with a dome head bolt that has a square throat something like the picture below. Drilled through the seat pan then punched the bolt in and it looks like it'll hold well. I wanted a flat top so there was no chance of pressing the upholstery into the rough/threaded section.

yeah man, rivnuts are badass, they were new to me also, a friend who had them and the crimping tool showed me how to use them. The tool is kinda pricey but its definitly worth it. I also attached my mufflers with them to the frame, Ill post some pics of that too. We got them at a place called american bolt here in austin but im sure you can get them anywhere that has a good selection of hardware.

Hi 650hcs,

Yup. They are in work also, trying to determine what kind of perforated or wire cloth to use.

I'll have better pictures when I get them painted + finished. I'll use brass M3 screws in the hole pattern.

I used 0.050" 3003H14 aluminum, my shot bags, ball peen and dead blow hammers to get the shape where it is at. Lots of paper patterns also.

The seat is laid up on the frame, fender, and tank with about 0.050" of offsetting so the felt layer will fit nicely after upholstery
