Pipes are wrapped and pretty much everything else is done. Need to paint the sissy bar, but I think I'll make another taller one for any longer trips.

just seeing this now. that is freaking CLEAN! i usually don't like the bobbers/hardtails that much, but dammit i'd build this bike in a HEARTBEAT! well done

Thanks a lot for the compliments!

On a side note, after months of waiting and back and forth with the DMV, I finally have someone coming out this afternoon to do an inspection on the bike. Since it's a custom frame with a serial number (no VIN) it has to go through the Custom Vehicle Title Program here in IL. I basically submitted paperwork at the end of May and here I am now at the beginning of November. If all goes well today, he'll stamp a VIN in the neck today, send that info to the DMV, they'll process the rest of the title paperwork and send me a title and a plate. Fingers crossed...

Well, a couple of officers from the Illinois Secretary of State Police showed up yesterday afternoon, did my inspection (which I passed) and stamped a VIN into the neck of the frame. The one officer said at first glance "Well, this isn't your first rodeo." When I told him this was my first build he was even more impressed.

The longest portion of the process was the actual stamping of the VIN into the neck. They do it one letter/number at a time. He said I should have a plate/registration in about a week. Title will follow later, but I could ride without the title. Good to know now that I'm lucky to get a high temp in the 40's. At least I have all next year to ride. Might start with an engine tear down this winter to be fresh for next year. Anyway, I'll feel better when I have a plate on the bike and title in hand, but I'm finally feeling like I've made my way through this IL Custom Vehicle Title Program. Not so sure I'd do it again, but it would sure be easier the next time around.
