Howdy, I have a set of VM34s on my '77 and no real troubles....right now. But I have noticed that under high vacuum it's significantly harder to open the throttle. Fer instance;

Riding down the highway, I let off the throttle and I can feel its a touch harder to pick it back up.

When going into a slow turn I will drop a few gears while braking. While in the turn I'll try to pick up the throttle...and it's hard as all get out to pick it up smooth. Usually, no matter how hard I try to be smooth, I'll end up jerking the throttle and upsetting the front end.

Typical?

Thanks, BHR

No he thinks your cable routing is affecting your slides, nothing to do with vaccuum. Throttle should pull easy and snap back (more importantly). Test with the motor off, and turn the bars from lock to lock slowly. Cheers

With the motor off the slides snap back into place very nicely and there is no jerking in pulling the throttle. Putting through town everything is dandy. Only during heavy vacuum is there a "problem". Is this typical of the VM34s?

No, not typical of vm34s. I would more assume its a sync issue then a vacuum issue.

There is no way that your motor has that much suck to hold the slides against the Carb bodies enough to bind it. When you say its hard do tou mean its hard to twist the throttle or that the engine just doesn't pick up right away?

If its not picking up right away it could be a sync or a jetting issue,

Hard to twist the throttle.

That sounds reasonable and quite likely.

I was at a friends putting on my Pamco ignition. That messed up my idle so after adjusting it I sync'd them. But when I got home my idle was way high so like a jackass I messed with the screws. I'm sure that un-sync'd them.

I've been planning on putting vacuum barbs on the intakes so I could use my sticks to get the job done right, but haven't had time. Guess now I have more of a reason to find some time to get that done. Thanks for the input!
