Hey, i'm looking to convert my '78 bs38 straight to the angled holders... is it possible? Correct me if i'm wrong...

I need the throttle bracket and the throttle lever assembly? Did those parts will fit on the right or left side of the carb (right one when sitted on the bike)? If I can fit it on the right side of the carb i'll need part from earlier xs/tx 71-76 bs38??

And the big question is: Where I can get those parts? Anybody ever order from NW Vintage Motorcycle Parts located in Estacada Oregon?

I'll take my carb off the bike tonight for a little brainstorming before I give up and buy vm's!!

Thanks!!

This comes up from time to time as many prefer the linked single throttle cable BS 38's of 1976, thru 79 with the angled boots which bring the carbs to a level and parallel alignment. As well from the dual cable un-linked version of pre 76'. Simply put... there needs be a lot more to doing so than is easily imagined. Really getting into the carb guide posted on this site will give you many a clue. Bottom line is that the carburetors were not made to be mounted on a bar, to have the throttles or butterfly's joined, to be synched or to have the enricheners synched and more. Concensus seems to be that the later linked sets were better, easier to tune and synchronize and that attempting to join the earlier sets was not worth the effort, cost or result. Trading up to linked models: either the 584 type of 76' & 77' or the 2F0 type of 78' & 79' is far easier, more cost effective and rewarding rout than trying all the mods. necessary.

My take and many others as well I do believe. Moreover, I can't think of anyone's positive experience to the contrary. BOL, Blue

PS All 1978 Mikuni CV BS 38's were linked single cable sets needing "angled carb boots". Only 1975's and earlier required "Straight boots"

All the linked carbs used the angled carb holders. The early, 256 engines with unlinked carbs used straight holders. The 74 and 75 used inlinked carbs but used angled holders.
