I dropped a #%^*#%# retaining clip!

I was installing pistons (without anything over the opening below, dammit!) when I dropped one of the retaining clips. It fell straight down past the crank. My question is can I remove the clip by removing the oil sump? I hope I don't have to open the cases again.:doh:

Yep. Removed the sump and the clip was snuggled right up to the filter's magnet. Whew! Thanks for the replies!

I'm sure he will not do that again
what I used to hate was the ford oil pump drive shaft that ran off the bottom of the distributor.
You would pull the distributor that damn shaft sometimes would come out and drop into the crankcase.
Oh what fun!
 
Here's a simple way to eliminate the possibility of dropping things into the engine. Pistons pre-installed in the cylinders, and then install the pistons/cylinders combo horizontally.
