Hi guys, just a quick and simple question:
What is a good functional fork brace that will fit my 79' special? I've seen the ones at Mikes and Omars, are there others? Are there ones that are recommended, that aren't just for looks but that do the job well? What are you guys using?

This is mine. I'm pretty sure its Gordon Scott's design. Simple and Functional

For my pretty standard 78 Special, I like the Tarozzi brace, fitted up nicely and lets me keep my front mudguard and dust boots in place and isn't in your face.

The Tkat brace is cut from billet.

I believe the Tarozzi is cast.

Functionally, they should be the same. Omar's has a pretty one for more $$.

The hoop type braces can increase stiction. The pictured braces are less likely to do that. FWIW, I have a Tkat brace.

I put one of the MikesXS ones on my cafe years ago - fits well and does the job. I wanted a little more 'traditional' look than you get with the new fangled T-Kat and Tarozzi style braces ;)

It's possible perhaps but pay special attention to the measurements questionnaire form on Tkat's site....it may require unique CAM cutting. They are all made in that fashion... however, it's more a question of lead time. Tkat's the way to go in my opinion if you also want to run a fender. Blue

This is the diagram measurements form that's on Tkat's site and those he'll need to produce the brace you need.

Is fork brace necessary for lowered forks?

It isn't necessary on any of them. Whether or not you realize any benefit from a fork brace depends upon how you use the bike and your skill as a rider. You would likely find greater benefit from new springs and perhaps cartridge emulators. IMHO, a fork brace is just icing on the cake.

What about extended forks?
