So what's everyone's verdict? Anyone dropping their bobber project for this one?

Around $8000 in the USA and $9000 in Canada................... Yamaha will sell lots of them! Air cooled for simplicity, Fuel Injected, belt drive, and Yamaha high quality............looks like a winner.

I wonder why those riders in the Yamaha video never smile??

Too many awkward random bits every where. Plus whose the genius who put a spring seat on a bike with suspension? Miss the target much? Who are they building these things for?

I'd have to see one in real life first as most factory customs look a bit messy to me. Anyone know what size the engine is?
Just out of interest how does the price compare to a Sportster over on your side of the ocean?

If you watch the video of the Yamaha release they directly reference the XS650 and the custom bike subculture around it, specifically mentioning bobbers.

Yes but with a much different engine design V-twin as opposed to parallel twin.
jefft

Yep. It would be sweet if they went whole hog (pardon the pun) and had brought out a 1600cc vertical twin like Triumph did, except looking exactly like the XS (and rephased to boot). I don't know why Yamaha wouldn't cash in on their heritage (pardon the pun again) like Harley does. Heck, even Kawasaki does the W800, and their vertical twin history isn't exactly noteworthy.

It's actually got me considering buying a new bike for the first time. The only thing that might hold me back is wondering if there might be a 1300 next year, or Kawasaki brings the W800 to Canada.

My mate has a W800 and really likes it, he rates it as one of the best he's ever had and that's coming from a man who's owned a lot of Japan's offerings and a Harley too!
Looking round my local motorcycle dealer it's only the W800's and the new Triumph Bonnevilles that really tempt me, nothing else they have excites me at all!

Yamaha DID bring back the vertical twin... nearly cloned the xs650 really. W650 sales were so poor in the US, you cant even get parts for one.

Entry level for a bolt... is high end for an xs650. For that kind of dough, you could buy the tools to build a badass xs from scratch. Look better, faster, cooler, louder...

:wtf: yeah except for the fact that the W650 was/is a Kawasaki  you might try the TRX
