Names seth i bought a 81 yamaha xs with a love for old yamahas and old school style The bike i found as my first was hardtailed and raked with a keg as a electrical box with drag bars and forward controls already. With this being my first onroad bike i wanted something with somewat start. I drove 3 1/2 hours to pic up the bike met the guy and he said all it needed to run was a tune of the carbs. when i got there it was clear the pics i was sent were def a few years old and the bike aged alot. Not knowing alot about the bikes i bought it cuz i relly wanted it, got it home and did alot of reading and tore the bike down i found alot wrong. :doh:The whole ignition and charging system was bad, tank rusted, low compression, and cheap forward controls so the bike was stripped to frame and wheels:banghead:. I did alil research and found a 77 xs 650 cheap and ran. Got that bike home sripped it and cleaned the engine. I orderd a new pma/pamco kit from mikesxs.com and alot of body and eletrical stuf from tcbroschopper.com. Got all the parts in it felt lik christmas and a new start to the bike after being burned. Heres some pics of it from start to know.

so i got the bike ready to run but i have a question. I have a few ideas but what are some ways people are doing suicide shifters and holding. But before i go on I DONT CARE IF U THINK IT IS A STUPID IDEA OR DANGEROUS I KNOW WHY THEY ARE SUICIDE SHIFTERS AND MY LOVE FOR OLD SCHOOL STYLE IS WORTH IT. but what are you doing for clutch cables and shifter to hold. also what are alot of ppl doing for carbs mine need tuned and maby rebuilt so im looking at my options send them to be rebuilt or buy aftermarket.

Welcome to the site. I have seen some use a foot clutch. The carbs you can do your self or search old school carbs he does good a great job if you send them out.

im looking to do the clutch on the shifter ive tried doing alil research on but all the post i find are bombarded with ppl saying how dumb and dangerous they think it is . all i can find is a green bobber but no good info on how the clutch is

get some 7/8 drag bars, cut them down, put clutch lever on it and weld it to shift arm.... Easy easy!! I run a foot clutch set up i got off of a member on here.... Irishprick...

Thats a fine collection of 16oz Pabst cases.

I like PBR, but only from a bottle, not sure why. I don't think they sell it in bottles anymore :banghead:

By the way I like that exhaust, not the wrap, but the basic design. Neat bike.

So ive been working on my bike when i can but still come up to the need for carbs wat do ppl suggest swaping out to but im moving to anchorage alaska so i know it will hsve to be rejeted

Jets for altitude change im not sure never made a change in altitude and wat does everyone suggest rebuild them single conversion. Or wat

Rebuild what you got and wait till you get to Alaska before you rejet for altitude.......you're elevation in Tn may be higher than where you'll be in Alaska. I like PBR too when I want a store bought lager.

1 of 2 routes: Let oldskool rebuilt them, tell him where you're goin.
Or rebuild yourself, keep jetting as is, make sure it runs good.
CV carbs are very good at altitude changes, unless you're going to 10,000 ft.

So i picked up a frame thats full custom off craigslist cheap to start my bobber build but waiting till i move to the new house to get it going but so ready to hear my chopper run after a year of setbacks wish me luck on trying to start it

Custom frame I found to build my full on bobber

Think about mount issues. Top tabs let tank rock side-side. Isolation rubbers, without them you'll hear the tank, not the ride. Clearance to (if used) top motor mount. Clearance for any external wiring/cables. Petcock location: Interference? Gets all the fuel? Gas cap location, for the intended mounting angle: Will it fill-up? Will it spill when refueling?

Just a few thoughts, artistic expression trumps all...
