I've been trying to get my stock 73 running right for weeks. It runs good when I first fire it up after opening the petcocks, then the left cylinder cuts out. I have swapped plugs and leads and the right cyl always fires and runs great. I found tonite that the left cylinder cuts in and runs good after you shut off both petcocks and it starts to run out of fuel. I pulled the bowl at that point and found 1/4" of fuel in the bottom. I have tried to set the float level using a clear hose off the bottom drain and it always reads about 3-4mm below the carb body line. I have cleaned out the carb repeatedly and am at a loss?? Any thoughts?? Thx PS I have a Pamco ignition and the left plug always gets wet but wont fire..

Wether the float adjustment is off a couple of mm's doesnt explain why it refuses to fire until almost all the fuel is gone from the bowl? If it was coming out the overflow I could wrap my brain around it but this seems to be the opposite? I have a great spark but excessive fuel seems to drown it out?

Problem solved, turns out the new diapghrams I bought for the carbs were loose around the slide body and that kept the slide from lifting and thus permanently choking the motor. Also they allowed the slide to spin and the cutaways would not stay to the rear. My buddy threw a set of used oem ones in and now it runs better than it ever has, I'm psyched. If you put on a set of aftermarket cv diaprams make sure you cement them around the slide.
