I plan on changing out my CV38 carbs for aftermarket carbs. I know there are some cheapos out there but I want the best, most reliable because I am frankly tired of constantly adjusting, swapping jets, etc on my 1975 XS650B 38s. I know I will have to fine tune the new carbs but, who has good aftermarket carbs already jetted for the XS650?

The problem I see with the stock carbs is that they are old and there are so many parts that have the potential of replacing. By the time you replace everything and rebuild you could have just bought new aftermarkets and fine tuned them. I have had good luck with mikuni dirt bike carbs on my vintage MX bikes.

I run mikuni vm34 on my wifes bike ( not a triumph ) runs great built it 2008 and have had no problems get's ridden about 3-5,000 miles a year

Check out the thread on EX500 carbs. I've seen those things with 80,000 miles on them and still ticking along just fine with no finicky shaft seal leaks and the like. Seems to just be factors with the early CV type carbs in general. The EX500s will run with pleated pod filters with no problems as well.
"Good aftermarket carbs already jetted for the XS650" is asking a lot IMO. It's not like anybody is moving 50 pair a year of them or anything.
$0.02.

+1 to Sn34ky and jd. I am running the cvk's from a 2004 ex500 and have had very good results. If you are dead set on going with a set of non vac carbs everything points to using the vm34's from 650central.

+3 I am also now running the cvk's From 2009. These carbs run better than the BS34 carbs and the bike a lot more responsive. The light weight flatslide is quick to open no waiting.

It depends what you're running as far as exhaust/air filters and probably also whether you have a big bore kit.

The baseline seems 38 pilots (I run mine about 2 1/2 mix screw turns out), PWK JJJ needle and 138 mains. UNI Pods seems to work well with those.

The hardest parts are going to adapt throttle cable and choke setup, but it's worth it.

Had mine out yesterday all I can say is these CVK carbs work Running same needles and jets and needles and jets as Maurice. 750 CC motor rest in signature. Did the back roads for awhile. Then the interstate top end main jet check. The top end on these carbs is unreal. The commando system was a big improvement top end with the BS34. From a 45 MPH roll on to 5000 rpm steady getting it . From 5000 RPM on was like a turbo kicked in the carbs and exhaust working in sync. I backed off at 7000 with plenty left. These carbs :rock:

You keep asking for custom carburetors that are going to work right out of the box and recipes for jetting. Believe this: if you don't know how to tune and are unwilling to learn, you'll experience nothing but frustration unless you stick strictly with a stock motor with stock air box, exhaust, and carburetion. If you don't want to rebuild your carbs yourself, go to www.oldskoolcarbs.com and www.wiredgeorge.com .

Slow your roll there grizld1. I don't believe I ever asked for custom carburetors that work right out of the box. What I asked about is something that has been advertised, which is carburetors that have been jetted for the XS650, and then I fine tune them. And I don't believe you can "learn" how to tune if you don't ask questions, "Guru".

"Enthusiast" :D

That is the title I have been given and so I ask questions. If I were titled "Guru" I would answer questions, not scold those who ask.

Now if any adults have something pertinent to add to my thread please feel free to do so.

My last question was "What size are the (EX500) CVK carbs? 33mm, 35mm?"
