Those statistics aren't really representative or a correct comparison and there are a number of mistakes throughout i.e. Drug offence numbers. They are also made ad hoc.
You can't just slap data against one another as a comparison, for starters it should be murders per 100,000 on each side. Also what categorises assault in the UK is a little different to what it does in the States, assault in the UK can be categorised as something as mild as a woman having her hand bag stolen.
I'm not saying the UK doesn't have problems. The only thing we need to fix in the UK are the very lax laws for crimes and an unarmed police force, introducing guns for everyone would be a disaster as the US has proved.
