Hi there

My name is Tommy i'm 30 from Quebec,Canada. I'm french so my english is not perfect
I've my bike licence since i'm 18
But i've not riding a bike since a big motorcycle accident i had when a was 20 on a sport bike ......it was a miracle to be still alive an not getting hurt so much

I have an autobody course...and working with tool and project since i was young

but know I'm a lineman so i'don't have a lot of spare time to work ont the project

btw I Love modifing anything

I always know I'll be riding a motorcycle again but I wanting something slow and papy :bike:

that's why I'm chossing to go with a Bobber

This is my first bike build ever:thumbsup:

The concept of All"most" is to not depend of everyone
I want to do all by myself if i can!
at this time the only thing i need is a machinist and my good friend is a really good one
He want to help me an exchange I help him with is project
He have all the toolling in is basement

SO in this concept if I need a tool to make a job or something.
I'm waiting to earn some money to get this tool to not depend of anyone or im building it (I know its more time and money consuming but i love to buyand build tool this is my live vice!

BTW I'm living an make the Build in a appartment and my "garage" is an shed of 10x11feet ish and the old dad's garage!

when I got the hardtail worth the xtra waiting time

IMG_0423-1.jpg

IMG_0425-1.jpg

SO this is the point of no return!
after I take mesurement 10 time to be sure the cut will be straight and right

IMG_0483-1.jpg

IMG_0489-1.jpg

And now the first fit test of the hardtail, I was so happy of how it look! far better than the stock look

That's no shed, bobber_xs - don't listen to Carbon (hhe, heh!), that's a palace you have there to do your work. When you see the small area some of us have to work in, like 'The Smallest Workshop in the World' of mine you will know what I mean. I can work on the bikes if the sun is out or it is not pouring down with rain because I need to pull a lot of gear out before I can do anything (I wish I lived in some land of eternal blue skies - oh! like Florida, which looks like a nice place to ride bikes). Still, it's all fun - and welcome to the forum. I will be following the build.

I will not qualify my shed of palace but I can tell you with all the tools and 3 xs650 inside
all I need is more space:doh:

but for the moment it do the job I made some more shelve end racking to save more space to work with
and parked the bike in a spare room we got in the appartement:laugh:
because here the winter is comming, and I didn't want to get freeze all the time when working on the bike because this shed is not heated......

SO this is my ghetto jig :wtf::laugh: but every thing is straigh like and arrow
after many hours of mesurement to get it straight and right:thumbsup:

The front of the frame was welded to a big 2x2x10 inch iron also welded to a angle iron
screwed to the table
The neck of the frame was fixed with strap ratchet binder to the roof and the floor
I've instaled a rope centerline from the neck to follow the backbone to the back of the frame

and take a lot of mesurement before tacking anything

when everything was straight I've bolted the back engine support and r-take the mesurement after that I made some tack with my TIG
and re-check all the mesurement to be sure its all straight
This took me all day to do all this setup but
BUT you know we work with what we have access!
I'm really happy of the result everythig is straigh and clean finnally:thumbsup:

Now the welding, everything was TIG welded

The engine was remove at the last time to finish the welding in the place I cannot go with my TIG wip

Before this thing happen
far before....I've asking to jon from ardcore to modify the frame for me for a special request
I'm explain here in quebec where I live I need to run flasher, brake light licence plate light etc.
So it mean wire everywhere.... and I want a clean looking bike
I want to pass the wire through the frame!
so I've asked to jon from ardcore to do the job for me but he didn't want for security purpose
HERE IS A PICS OF WHAT i WANT
xs650ardcore-1.jpg

SO i did it by Myself:)
First ardcore have a big plug to match the original backbone with the news hardtail....
I've made a hole to pass the wire inside
After that I've welded the hardtail to the frame
and made a little window to have access to the two small tube that goes behind
IMG_0447-1.jpg

IMG_0449-1.jpg

Afterthat i was able to do my final hole with a dremel
To have access with the two back tube
IMG_0691-1.jpg

IMG_0692-1.jpg

IMG_0694-1.jpg

finnally close the "window access" with the TIG

IMG_0702-1.jpg

NOW this is how the frame look like!

My first bike was built in a spare bedroom on the second floor of my house. At least you got a shed. Make sure those wires are taped or shrink wrap in frame. Water tend to build up in frames and wires go bad if not protected. Great job for first bike :thumbsup:
KEEP CHOPPIN

What is all the straightening you were doing? I thought that hard tail was supposed to be the best because you make 3 cuts, line it up in the holes you cut, and weld it?

not so easy but far better easy than the other one on the market!

you have to line up the new hardtail left/right with the front
and the up/down as well
BUT when you change something if you are not right EVERYTHING change

so if you take some mesurement and you are not ok.... exemple to far on the left
you move the hardtail to the right.. BUT up/down move as well ...not to many

but to much for me:thumbsup:

and you have to make the mesurement all again....then repeat!

hope this help:thumbsup:

We all have our own approach to putting stuff together, reelop19. Some of us are quick and can do it blindfold, others take their time and measure, and test, and measure, etc. In the end it is all fun. Yep, I believe they sell those hardtails as a three cut job. Wouldn't it be great if it were so - I admire the guys with the fabrication skills who do that kind of thing like it was falling off a log. I see bobber_xs is an attention-to-detail feller, lots of patience and likes to get it right, or as near to right as he can get. Should turn out a good bike - I'm watching this thread with interest.

I just receive my sproket today
IMG_1595-1.jpg

IMG_1599-1.jpg

But i was not completly satisfied with the original flat grey finish
SO I have decided to Polish it

Some of you are probably thinking now :wtf: WHY a crazy guys will lost is time on polishing a fucking sproket??
First to go out in the shed to drink some white velvet beer:cheers: just kidding!
But in reality, I Just want the sproket to match my wheels look.
IMG_1601-1.jpg

IMG_1600-1.jpg

and there is a compagny name punched on it and small scuff and machining dent and i didn't want it because it was on the side we can see it, I know its only a small detail some people will not care about
but I do.
So i remove it by wet sanding 400-600-800-1000-1200-1500-2000
then polish it
IMG_1603-1.jpg

IMG_1610.jpg

To finish with something Shine brite like a diamond:thumbsup:

IMG_1616-1.jpg

BTW I'm happy with the Final result
