Spoke length question

I think Mike's sells kits for both these rim sizes to the stock hubs.
I'd start there.

I emailed the fellas over there about spoke length, they still haven't gotten back to me. I would just order them but they don't ship to Canada. The Canadian site xs650direct is lame and out of stock on most rims and spokes which has lead me to some sketchy eBay sellers from Thailand that can't match spokes up to rims...

I can't help with the 21" front but for a stock 18" drum rear, the spokes are about 150mm long. An old Yamaha shop manual lists them as 151.5mm for the outer, 152mm for the inner. But, it all depends how you measure them. There doesn't seem to be a standard way. Some places go from the bottom side of the bent top section to the end of the threads on the other (straight) end. Some go from the center of the spoke diameter on that top bent part, others from the center of the head. So, this can give you 3 different values, differing by up to a couple MM's. When I measure rears from the bottom side of the bent top, I get about 148mm. Yamaha looks to be measuring from the center of the head.

Thanks 5twins. That takes care of the rear, now just for the front. For your 148mm measurement I believe you mean like this:

Yes, like your actual pic, not quite like your drawing. Spokes within a few MM's either way will usually work. Slightly long and you just grind off the part that sticks out of the bottom of the nipple inside the rim. Slightly short and a few threads show above the nipple. Just make sure there's enough threads in the nipple to hold.
