xs650 build off 2014!!

Couple questions.
First is it to late to get in? Slacker Garage Shop SgS would like to get in on this.
Second, Can a xs400 enter?
I have a "shop" bike I have been picking away at for the last couple months inbetween other work but its a 400.
Our goal with this bike has been budget budget budget... Cutting no corners and trying to keep the sell price under $3500 on a complete ground up built bike.
Looks like Michigan should be well represented this year and we would enjoy making the trip.
If im to late to get in no worries, not sure how strict the rules are as far as entry date.

Frames done . Got it sand blasted for 80 dollars . Powder coated it in my brothers home made oven . It was cold and windy , but I got it done . There's some bare spots that I'll touch up with paint .
At least now I can start assembly . Going to be a busy month and I won't get much done . It should be together by spring . Going skiing this weekend . Certainly can't ride .

Regards,
CPKID

Just got word we cant enter our Xs400, That's a bummer but its my fault for not catching this thread earlier. I would think a XS is a XS without displacement but that's the rules. We will pay better attention and be there next year for sure. Best of luck to everyone there and we might just show up anyway :bike:

PLZ come and hangout its a great time.

I'm 51 with a good back and would like to keep it that way! So 6 days of riding a little over 300 miles a day sounds doable.

Good to see other guys are riding hardtails long distance! My longest day was 700 miles on mine and that was enough. 300 is a good comfortable distance. I have 750 miles to the show to do in two days so It should be a good ride.

I just realized I haven't posted for Jan. yet....Not much progress this month.Just trying to figure out how to make a VLX frontend work on the frame.:banghead:

Are we supposed to be posting in this thread every month? I made a separate build thread... oops... here is on pic...

Riding from providence RI to Ohio... should be a good 800mi...

January update: SNOWPOCALYPSE 2014 has prevented me from any progress due to lack of shop space, and funds.... and then theres the paying for an engagement ring aspect of a near minimum wage job.... looking for a second job to get us into a place with a garage/shop then some real progress can be made..... down to doing one bike, and not gonna get the rephase, big bore or even the pma done.... hope to at least manage a stretched, dropped seat mini bagger.... but if i score this 650 Nighthawk for cheap, maybe ill just hardtail this XS650 and get another for the better half....

JANUARY UPDATE: My brother and i drove up to Austin yesterday to pick up our hardtail and a seat pan from VooDoo Vintage. We hung around for a while and shot the shit with David and Kenneth. Let me just say, those guys are class acts. We will definitely be buying another couple of hardtails from them in the future, as well as possibly a complete frame. And the 10 ga. seat pan we picked up is hell for stout.

January Update: Business is incredible which leads to leads to less time in the garage. Bought a new TIG welder that has been sitting without being turned on since its delivery weeks ago! Hoping February proves to be more productive.

Sounds like a great problem to have!

The "slider" is 90 degrees off. The curve at the bottom of the "slider" cylinder should open out. Perhaps you can rotate the rubber diaphram 90 degrees.DSC02607.JPG

Starting to disassemble. Work has been sending me to Mexico a lot, so not much progress.

Where at in MO are you?

as for a picture update this month:

That slowed down progress. Walked away from it with no injuries except to my wallet.
Bought a truck now and hopefully the weather in Feb will be much kinder to me.
