So the my '76 XS650 came with what looks like a mismatched kickstand. To make the matters worse the previous owner decided to just safety wire the stand to the frame when he went for a ride. So I'd actually like to get a spring for this stand but I have no idea what this came off of.

Any chance anyone has seen this kickstand before? Has a rubber foot or tip.

Thanks

Yep. That's a cb kickstand. I would post in the classified "Wanted" and get yourself a used xs one, clean it up and replace it. Mikes might have them new too.

another option measure the distance from the spring hook point on the stand to the spring hook point on the frame with the stand in the up posistion at a good hardware store find a heavy spring about 3/4 inch shorter than that distance install and it should work ok

Yes, just finding a spring that fits might be your best bet. The '76 had a one year only stand. Mike's doesn't sell it or the spring.

Trial and error with hardware store springs should find one that works. You should install the spring with it in the up position. That way it pulls it back to where you installed it at. Just don't use a like a trampoline spring that may be a bit to strong. I'm assuming you know all this but we all get brain farts sometimes.

If anything I'm using springs that aren't strong enough. I will see if I can get out the Ace hardware again today and buy another one. Snow maybe a problem. Thanks for the advice.

Hint you can heat and custom bend springs, straighten a section change the hook etc. Get it red hot, use a vice and pliers otherwise the burns take a long time to heal......

Yea I did that with the last one when it turned out to be a few coils too long. Still pulls the kickstand down though.

Don't quench springs, it makes them too brittle, just let them cool down.
The later XS stands use a spring cam plate thingie.
