I finally got some work done to my build off bike. Made up these modified JumpStreet Panzers, 8 inch rise, over did all the bends 10 degrees, and made them just as long as the throttle.

I've also been developing this weld on jockey shift for the xs650 and I'm finally ready to roll it out. I'm super happy with the outcome.

I really just need to make struts for the fender, an exhaust and a seat and then it's off to the powder coaters for the finish.

:yikes:That is badd azz.I love the jockey shift.

I'm glad I'm in it this for the ride,'cuz there is some stiff competition on the builds.

Nice work as always! I look forward to stopping by your shop when I'm in Howell in early March.

Crap, this is a competition?! i'm totally screwed...

Thanks guys the kind words mean a lot! I'm definitely going to be pushing myself creatively on this build. I'm hoping to really raise the bar with this bike. Lots of new and stylish stuff to come!

I like the headlight like that, but think it'd look better with different lens, thought about making your own? There's tutorials about casting lenses floating around the net. Mostly taillight, but don't see any reason couldn't use the same principles for headlight

But then it would be a Lucas headlight ;)

im pretty sure I skipped a January update because she has sat in pieces while parts gather for a while. here is the new 16" wheels with tank and lowered forks. i did an artificial patina on tank and headlight. will put a build thread together when the rest of the disassembly and reassembly begin.:banghead:

this is how she started.....the parts.....and how she sits. i bought a lift that she will be transferred to when the build resumes.

Making some progress . Had some snow days in Philadelphia and worked on the bike . Relaced the powder coated wheels , balanced and mounted tires. Started wiring . Took apart caliper which was seized up . Going to rebuild caliper and master cylinder . I like the look of the black rims . Should mount engine next month . Should be ready for spring startup.

Doubt I'll get much else done this month. Got the forks lowered 2 inches and started cleaning up frame. Tank mount and fender mounts complete. Need to mount the seat. Thinking about just running a 19" front until I can afford to send my rim and hub off to Buchanans (sp)
Trying to figure out paint scheme in my head.

Jonesin' to install this beast! Just arrived from Daniel at Pandemonium Custom Choppers. Came with spacers, axle sleeve and an inner tube. Finally ready to move forward!

Progress has not been fast and furious, to say the least. Spent January and February, mostly chilling out, thinking about how I want to proceed and collecting parts. Fitting the XS850 gas tank to the frame is a challenge, getting it to fit on the frame backbone and then securing it, (the tank is about 4 inches longer than the 650's, and mounts to the front opposite). Did an experiment on an extra tank I had, pounded the tunnel to create a shallow-seemed to work, so I went ahead and did the same with the tank I plan to use. As an aside, the test tank was coated on the inside, the coating peeled away from the dents, something that might be relevant to remember if a person plans to make knee dents. Next step - Mounting the tank securely.

Also decided to use a triple tree from a later model Virago. Easier to adapt than the Kawasaki triple tree I originally planned to use, but can still use the Kawasaki front forks and wheel.

Musket that should work out .I originally wanted to use a KLR 650 tank but I had the stock tank so I'm using it . I'll use KLR tank on next build . I mounted it and everything then had a lot more 73 parts come my way .
More snow coming next week here. Keep building and stay warm.

2014 Bike Build Off February update from Arizona: I'm in the process of building a custom tail light for the build-off bike. It took me a while to decide how I wanted it to look. Picture will be posted soon.

23 is mounted. Going to switch out the tire to a Bridgestone dual sport and go similar on the back.
