Hey guys, I want to adjust my valves on my bike. I watch the videos and understand what to do, but that section the tappets, models etc... I don't see mine there and my manual book only tells me to do the valve adjust cold (I know that):doh: it doesn't give setting for the intake or exhaust:shrug: (the manual say I have XS650H/XS650SH, but when ordering parts the only model listed is the XS650SK) I have 1983 Yamaha Heritage Special, any help would be appreciated:thumbsup:

Excerpt below from the Tech Section with Video. The first figure refers to to the inlet , the second to the exhaust.

So, if yours is an 83 engine, go with 0.06mm inlet gap and 0.15mm exhaust gap.



"Ok, here is a 4 part video tutorial on how to adjust the valves. My camera work is not too good, but you'll get the idea. Please note to do this with a cold engine. It's a pain until you get the hang of it, but is most essential.
Remember, as I advise, to rotate the engine back around through it's cycle and
re-check the valve you adjusted.
Always check to make sure you are at TDC compression stroke and you are adjusting the correct valve and using the correct clearence number.
Tappets - model...inlet...exhaust
...XS1-B.....0.003"(0.076mm)...0.006"(0.15mm)
...XS2-650..0.006"(0.15mm)....0.012"(0.30mm)
...XSB........0.0024"(0.06mm)...0.004"(0.10mm)
...XSC-on...0.0024"(0.06mm)...0.006"(0.15mm)

Does anyone know why Yamaha doubled the valve clearance for the XS2?
 
I've never yet figured out why anything from .003-.006 on the intake side and .006-.012 on the exhaust is in anyway harmful to any of these motors. I do think that .004 on the exhaust for the XSB is a little too close, tho.
