As many of you are probably aware my son has been working on the application process to attend The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. We have recently learned that he has been accepted after the grueling 6 month long process of application and interviews. We went up to the school over this past weekend and had the parents orientation and found out exactly what the cost is going to be ($2000 a year for the next 2 years). I am not currently in a position where I can't afford to pay the fees at this time which is to say the least a little disheartening. I am currently trying to liquidate all the money I have tied up in inventory for some of the items I was selling trying to raise money ahead of time but I am still going to be quite a bit short. I am asking for the assistance of everyone I have been in contact with in hopes that I will be able to raise the needed funds to make sure that he will be able to go to an amazing school which will give him an amazing opportunity for his future.

If anyone is interested in helping please go to my gofundme page here.

$2000 a year is pretty cheap compared to what my kids paid . One of them owed $85,000 after finishing two masters degrees , another one managed to work off her debt in no time and is now debt free working on a PHD in education , the third one has a diploma in business but works in IT and has about $15,000 left to pay off and has a mortgage also .

Your son should be able to get a student loan and work over the summer to pay that off , you shouldn't feel guilty about not being able to foot the whole bill at once for him ,and in my opinion, if a kid has put their own sweat blood and money into getting an education they usually take it more seriously .

ya thats a good deal my son went to Capital University here in Ohio and were 85k
in debt and thats with schlarships, but he got a great education thats what matters.

No kidding, I know I did 25 years ago. I worked 12 hour shifts 6 too 7 days a week in a factory over the summer to cover my school year housing. My nephew goes to Michigan State and my sister says it's about $35K a year. Ouch! I'm socking away a couple of hundred dollars a month in a 529 account for my kids, plus once they are 18 I will no longer be paying $1K a month in child support to my ex, so I'm hoping I can afford to help out my kids. I'm still scared though.

My employer just told me I need to pursue my next level degree. I'm looking at over $2k per class, 15-18 classes! The tuition at the community college where I teach is still reasonable for the area, $120/credit, so most classes come in around $400 each.

I appreciate all of the responses and I did fail to put in that it is not a college but a S.T.E.M. High School that he has an opportunity to complete he junior and senior years at and the money is not for tuition but room and board fees and the likes. Believe me if he were older (he is currently 15) he would be working to help pay for his school. Since it is a high school there are no grants or scholarships available although there are fee waivers available if you receive food stamp or free or reduced lunches (we don't qualify for those). Again I appreciate all the responses.

$4000 over 730 days is $5.48 a day. I can think of about 20 ways to save that out of my daily spending off the top of my head.
