Hello, I just picked up an 81 650 special last night, and I love it already, plan to go through the basics and ride it this summer, maybe some minor cafe mods, and on to a more serious cafe style build this winter. The po installed the current seat setup and looks like he cleaned the bike up some. I had some high idle issues this morning but I fixed that with proper spark plugs. Going to retorque heads as I have a small oil leak, also new tires.

Love the 81 with the mags and drum rear brake. Only mags with stock drum post 79 I think.
 
The ass on that thing is gorgeous. Is that custom work or is that how the special came factory?

I'm new too so if that was a dumb question...eyyyy give a guy a break.
 
Thanks guys, the seat and rear were on the bike when I bought it, I'm not sure where it came from. It is fiberglass and looks factory made. The seat foam is not the best for longer rides, I'm thinking of building a two seater version so my wife can ride with sometimes. So far I put about 700 miles on her, I'm going to change oil again and switch to iridium plugs. I also did the exhaust punchout mod and It sounds much better!
