hey, kind of new to the xs650s (own 3 now lol) I started a restoration on a 71xs1b I picked the bike up for really cheap from a friend, it sat in a garage since 1978, and only has 10xxx original miles on it, the bike was really dirty and pitted, but everything came back to life with a little elbow grease. still a lot to do, and if I were to take it down to the frame and re paint the frame and swing arm will that ruin the value by a lot? and if any one could tell me what they think its worth the way it sits now would be appreciate it. only thing not original is the handle bars and seat. from what I can see.

Hi '71,
it looks like the elbow grease is doing a great job on that bike and unless the frame is red with rust leave it as is.
A full teardown and rebuild is a load of work and removing the frame's patina can lower the resale value.
And it may be my elderly vision but that rear wheel appears to be too fat.
Stock XS1B had a 4"-18 rear tire while yours looks like it's wearing a 5"-16.

Bike looks good , BUT the front fender is on backwards for one thing . Seat is not stock . And looks like the cylinders and head were painted . Also handlebars are not stock . Coil wires and rear tire was mentioned . Aside from that the XS1B is my favorite behind the XS1 of course. You have a very nice bike . Only 10,300 were made in 71 . The less made the rarer and more valuable . Good luck with it . It's as keeper.
Regards,
CPKID
