Cafe Racer with a twist

Love it! I'm sorry if you've already mentioned it, but where are you hiding your battery at?

The battery and starter solenoid are under the rear part of the seat and the ignition unit is under the front part of the seat.
The fuse box and starter cut out relay are mounted on the frame underside of the seat so nice and easily accessible.
The coil and rectifier unit are in the original location.
The flasher relay is of the R6 and mounted in the same place as the original XS650 unit.
I've junked the head light reserve unit and some other relays when I made the new wiring loom, which is based on the R6 and XS650 loom to comply with UK legislation. So now I've got a front side light and H4 beam which can be switched on or off when the ignition is on.
All other handle bar switches work as they were on the R6.

Just stumbled upon this thread, great looking bike! I have a couple of questions for you though. I am looking to swap my forks and have been looking at the conventional R6 forks as well. Did you need to modify the stem at all? Or use any spacers? Or did you just use the 48x30x10 stem bearings and it all bolted together? As for the front wheel/brakes, did you need to make any spacers or shims for the calipers to mount to the forks or did you just need to do the spacers for the rotors? Do you mind me asking how thick the rotor spacers are?

Hi Dan,
The R6 forks were pretty much a bolt on swap. No modifications to the stem, just larger bearings as you said rightly and then I welded on a larger steering stop to the frame neck and a boss for the steering lock, as I wanted to use all R6 switch gear etc.
The calipers are not spaced and fitted with the stock R6 bolts, which then give enough clearance to the wheel. I had some 10mm thick spacers made for the rotors and used FZR400 dished rotors 298mm diameter. If you want to use the flat FZR disc you'd need thicker spacers.
Cheers Frank

Thanks Frank. I really like those little ones. Too bad it appears they are standard bulbs and not LED. They look great on your bike.

I have to go to more swap meets.....there are never any in my area. I see a lot of cool stuff people find at them though. Gotta make it happen.
