xs650 build off 2014!!

My bike is running and riding. Only have about 50 miles on it. Slight cam chain rattle so pulling the engine and replacing cam chain and guides along with valve seals.

May also put a better paint job on it since it'll be apart, right now it's all tractor epliment black (paint holds up the best out of everything I've tried)

Here's a sneak peak:

Took engine apart and guide looked brand new still, probably just needed adjusted, but better safe than sorry. Engine 98% back together now, with new cam chain, guide, valve seals, and gaskets from jugs up.

May Update for my Retro Rocket Build Off Bike. I know it's the second of june but I was working.

I tooled and made my seat and did what i thought was a cool braided lace pattern.

and i'm pretty happy with the end result.
I made a Headlight mount bracket and mounted my Headlight, I decided I don't care for the dead/empty area below the headlight so i ordered a cool chrome star horn that's almost 4" in diameter that i'll mount in front of the mounting bolt area.

I drilled and welded my tank mount bungs and also welded my seat mount bungs and tabs to the frame,

I also cut & bent up some 1/2" rod stock to make a 12"x5" rack that will go over the rear fender and serve as a point to attach fender mounts. I'm running a little behind where i want to be but I will hopefully pickup speed.

Making progress on the seat pan sheet metal. Just need to finish welding and then foam it and cover it.

I'm in search of some old cracked leather. I'm open to suggestions. "Tuck and roll" I'll have to look into. That would probably be the look I'm going for but I've never made it before. Since this is going to be a rigid seat, I think the pad will be at least 2" think with a firm layer of foam at the bottom. I hope it turns out.

Seat pan is finished and mounted. I have 30 more items to do by July 19th (self-imposed deadline). Hopefully I will take the time to take pictures as I go. Best of luck to the other builders!

Had time to work on my build . I cleaned an old swap meet tank yesterday . It really came out pretty good ( inside ). It was pretty rusty and stuff rattling around inside . I used the Eastwood kit . Rebuilt two old petcocks and started it back up today . I'll tune it better soon. I really wanted to hang the rear bags . I polished the chrome and fastened them on . I need to find a close paint match . Have to hook up rear turn signals as we'll .
Front brake caliper won't bleed . Caliper is probably clogged with grease. I used a grease gun to extract pistons. The list is getting shorter .

I'm closing in on completing the fabrication. I need to make a kickstand and then I can cut off the tubes from the jig and the bike will be free!

Well, went for a 130ish mile ride on Saturday.
Bike's doing pretty well.
I had to go back to BS38s for right now because my VM34s are running too rich and I don't have jets for them yet.
I had started an awesome paint job on my tank, but it started to peel off because I didn't prep it right, so now it's back to black.

That's about the only updates I have.

how do you know when your getting old?
you put running boards on your chopper
