Hey all,

I have a 1981 XS650 with a new Pamco, PMA from Mikes XS, shorty pipes, and running a cap.

I adjusted the valves, cam, clean carbs, upjetted, and the bike ran great for about 150 miles. All of a sudden, the bike felt like it was misfiring. I pulled over. The bike idles very well. When I give it gas, it misfires.

I went back and adjusted the cams, cleaned the carbs, and the Pamco is in the same position.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I should try next?

Will do. For overcharging, should I just check at the capacitor terminals?

I also changed out the ignition coil, spark plug wires, and boots. Tried to advance the timing and retard it but the bike just ran worse. Again, it idles great!

I ordered a new capacitor that should be here next week. Going to try new plugs today too.

Hooked up a timing light tonight. During idle the bike is firing at the correct spot. As I rev the motor, the timing light idicated the ignition is not sparking as quickly as it should. Then, when the timing light does light up, the fire line on the PMA rotor was all over the place.....maybe the Paco fried?

Check all your connections. One wire can cause that. I've been fighting this issue for a long time and today I fixed mine. The wire going to my ignition behind the key was loose. I fixed it and now it runs like a new bike. Also, my bike is a rigid so there's always shit falling off or going wrong.:bike:
