My 81' XS650 Chopper & Intro

Something new finally. Added a internal throttle to the mix. It's not as smooth as the other throttle, but it's pretty cool looking having it so clean. I have to repaint my bars again though. ;-)

I went to 1" bars. One thing I got out of the 1" is my clutch works awesome now. I can find neutral with ease. I guess it has more pull than the 7/8 clutches that I tried before.

So I found out last night that my bike does 90 no problem now. I put a new chain on and it's like a whole new bike. Probably not the chain. More likely it's just getting lots of attention. But it's running great!

So I'm riding it to Born Free at the end of the month. Should be pretty cool.

If your sprockets are bad your going to chew up that new chain. I would pitch the old sprockets and spring for the new ones if you are going on a road trip Phail. Btw how did you mount your mirrors? I see they are in the top tree mounts. Did you custom make them? Be safe on your born free run. Sounds cool.

Problem is I can't get them here before the trip unless I pay double. I'm not going to pay $40 shipping.

I know, I know... Throwing away a $50 chain to save $40. I've already got 400 miles on it so it's probably toast anyway. And it was off another bike that I bought super cheap, so maybe it's a $10 chain after adjusting for the price I paid.

I forgot all about 650central. Too late now. And such a pain to order from.

I've got a rephased cam and Crank on it's way from Bryan who was at HHB! Sweeet!

I'm going to build up that spare engine I have on the floor. Can't wait to get it in my bike.

So I'm going to be re-phasing soon. What are all the things I should do while I'm in there.

I have new:
Cam Chain,
Tensioner,
Guide,
Clutch pads,
Clutch thrust bearing,
Clutch rods,
Worm gear.

Getting new:
Shifter Seal,
Mike's 5th gear.

What else...

Made it to Born Free and back. 1000 miles. It was a great trip. The show was ok too.

My bike did it like a champ. 500 miles in 9 hours. I love this bike.

Love this thread, really makes wanna do a hardtail. Killer seat as well. Can you post some a close up of those pipes? Kinda look like HHB speedster pipes but can't tell for sure. Congrats on the miles!

Where is that seat from, you make? I'm changing from a spring set up to something like that.dig it.

Phail -

Do you find that your front tire "hunts" like a MOFO in rain grooves?

I have an avon 5.00-16 on the front of mine and it's squirelly as HELL on grooves!!

Those pipes were the first thing I did when I got the bike. I'll post up some photos. Had photos here but not sure what happened to them.

Got the seat at a swap meet and I cut it down and reworked it. I love the seat. Fits me perfect.

Yeah, front and back do. It's like riding a hula-hoop.

Do you ever get used to it? :yikes:

Sillier question... is there a real "danger" of it making you go down or is it just a loose feeling that you get used to?

Spectacular build BTW !! You have some great skills!

Don
