Fallen off lately?

Years back I was told something along the line of this.
You get good then you think your great and then yo make that mistake and you start over again. Face it if you do not fall once in a while then you only look at the bike but you sure do not ride it if you do not fall once in a while

Both were not my fault, of course

Well of course ...

but my poor attitude those particular days contributed to the accidents.

Poor attitude ? You Pete ? Perish the thought ...

Going just slightly too fast,

Only just slightly ?

not really speeding, and not reacting to the developing situation.

"not reacting to the developing situation." Situational awareness and muscle memory reaction to developing situations can be a life saver.

Really ? :D okay Pete I'll quit poking the bear

Complacency.

In a single word you have spoken volumes .

You tend to ride more responsibly after a wreck, but that wears off in about ten years when the scars heal.

My experience exactly .

I forgot to put my stand down once,,,, in front of everybody at work. Does that count?
Many wipeouts on dirt though. hitting the ground isn't foreign to me.

Oh, that reminds me of one other. 1972 or so, Honda CL450. Parked on the top level of a parking ramp. End of day walked out with several others from work, put on my helmet, fired her up and promptly crashed in a pile. Forgot I had locked the fork. A really proud moment for the entire gene pool.

Back in the day I slid the xs1 around a corner in the rain. lately, now that I'm a well seasoned citizen, I tend to come to a stop on the Roadking and just seem to fall over (usually at a crowded rest area) this is kinda embarrassing but someone in the crowd helps stand her back up.

SAFETY ALERT--this thread is a jinx! Just today, dropped the XS in my driveway. Hit a nice thick stick hidden by leaves at walking speed, twitched the front wheel out from under me, couldn't get a foot down in time. Could have goosed the throttle and pulled out of the twitch if I'd been paying attention; ain't complacency grand? I'd just finished rubbing out the tank before the ride--a nice finish with Dupont Ful-Cryl 1950 Chrysler Black acrylic enamel. Of course the only damage was a small but ugly dent in same, with serious injury to my pride.

3 times unfortunately. Twice working as a courier - one time I hit a hidden oil slick on the road coming into an intersection. Someone had prob had an accident and spilt a load of oil. Second time flew into the back of a turning car at 60mph. I was looking in my rear vision mirror abusing someone who had just pulled out in front of me. Third time was someone who simply didn't look and pulled out into traffic right in my line.

At the start of this year i got rear ended on my fj1200 at a stop sign, he hit me fairly hard.
All i remembered was a smash sound then trying to stand up. Wasn't hurt to bad at the time, a few bruises and bumps.. But it took me 3 months before i could walk without limping.

2006 put my foot down and into a small hole in the road and only having a 28 inch inside leg my KZ1000 suddenly became to heavy and down we went luckily only snapped front brake lever, the time before was in 1978 on my Honda ss50 head down and flat out at about 50mph, when a car pulled out in front of me then WHAM straight into the drivers door and catapulted onto the roof and off the other side, walked away from that, the little Honda was written off.

The reliable left turn in front of me caused me to clip the bumper (almost got by her!) and the Kawasaki 500 went rolling one way and I went the other. Good thing I was only going about 15 mph. Bike was quite twisted, but I eventually got it running again. Thanks to helmet and leathers I was just bruised.

And that my friends was 50 years ago and I haven't had a tumble since!

Riding the moto keeps me sharp, you better bet.

This is the end of my first season riding. I've put 3k miles on the XS and haven't fallen off riding...

I have dropped it three times, usually in the garage, after going for a long ride and propping her on the center stand, usually on to an old dishwasher or a stand of wrought iron fences.

I'm so sorry XS. You're tank was so pretty in April.

Crashed a honda vfr...dealer bike....on consignment. Cold day, new tire. Touched the gas on straight road....out it went. A few crashes on my klr off road, naturally.

44 years 3 times. Last time 3 yrs ago got hit by another bike :yikes:. I remember seeing the letters ST1300 coming at me on shoulder of road next thing I know i am in a helicopter. Broken fermur, ankle, crushed foot. Sheared the foot peg right off. Lucky not my foot. My girlfriend was riding in front of me and she heard the crash in our bike to bike head set.

Owch. These stories are the worst.
Closest thing I've done to falling was giving it a little too much gas on a U-turn off ramp. Got to a slick part of the turn and the rear wheel slide out from under me. I caught myself with my foot before it fell but it was enough for me to not want to do it again.
