Started working on my wife's xs, the story is this, bought it, rode it home, got 3/4 way back, started having electrical problems, limped it into the garage and ordered a pma and pamco kit, put it in and tried running it. Here's where the problems start, my carbs are the mikesxs performance carbs, they ran fine on the way home but after the new electrical they race the engine to all hell and back, just shut the bike off and "fiddled" with the carb settings. Then got the bright idea (and I still think it's the right one) to go with a single carb conversion, using one of the mikes carbs. Now, i have started the bike again using the stock jets, I know they wont work correctly, but I was expecting the bike to idle low, not race and backfire. I am new to carbs so where do I go from here? I'm not sure what the jets are now, but I figured since I'm running two cylinders I should go bigger. Any advice would be welcome. thanks

Honestly cant remember if I "fiddled" with the carbs before or after the swap as I was grasping at every straw I could to get it running again for her.

Do you have the e adavance? Or the mechanical advance? It sounds to me, that your timing could me to far advanced and thats whats keeping the rpms up there.

Well, I feel kinda stupid. I didn't understand the e-advance instructions (or possibly read them entirely) and left the mechanical advance on the bike. It is now properly installed and I will be sending the single carb intake back for exchange with a different one. Then I will just have to wait for the jets I ordered to begin the tuning process. Yay.

Oh and post up some pics of your intake carb setup, I just bought one of wise guys. So I'll be following this thread for sure.

Sooner or later someone has to say "MikesXS carb(s)?" well there's your problem.....
Just as a heads up from what others have said; jetting will not change significantly one carb or two.

This thread is well worth the read Teecat lays it all out there

Very nice thread, I will keep it in mind when i'm struggling with this carb. I'm really hoping that most of the problems with the mikesxs carbs stem from balancing and not an inherent flaw with them. Taking into consideration the thread of TC and the mikesxs carb thread I'm hoping to be able to just use the one carb and it will run well. Just a hope. If not, I'll spend the money on the vm36.

There HAS been a change of venders for the carbs sold by MikesXS, hopefully the newer ones are better. There's a thread going right now about tuning them.

I just looked at the mikesxs website, my carbs sure don't look like the ones on there. Hopefully mrriggs thread will come in handy.

Finally got to work on her bike again. Got the manifold two weeks ago, put it in and started it up. Ran for a few seconds, blew the carb off and started the pool of gas it had leaked onto the floor on fire. Freaked me out. I pulled the float bowl off and pushed the stopper up a tiny bit. Yesterday I tried it again and it ran for a few seconds, so I tried again and turned the idle screw? out a quarter turn. Idled by itself till it ran out of gas. I feel good about it.
Here's a couple pics to show the manifold and how it sits on the bike, it looks good and sits out of the way. The fit and finish on the manifold is great and it's what I expect from a professional. It's good to see someone building parts like this. I have dealt with other "businesses" and gotten so much less.
