I decided I didn't want to try heating the garage this year. I have an old propane heater that is NOT fuel efficient. Cost a fortune to run. And it will fumigate you. The smell makes me dizzy and sick feeling. Plus a bad head ache.

So since my mom died I now have a spare bedroom. Did I say bedroom. I meant shop area. :D

Hell. I might even set up a sand blasting cabinet in there.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I have half of mine in the basement right now. Rebuilding the engine and polishing a lot of aluminum.

I have a kerosene heater that bakes me out of the garage but almost kills me with the fumes.

Thats funny, buddy of mine parks his sportser in the living room of his apartment. Lol

On second thought I think I just found a use for the spare bedroom, engine building room.

Hi Cal,
my wife went ballistic when I was fixing the snowblower in the kitchen one time at the old place.
After I carefully explained that her alternative was to go shovel the drive by hand at minus 20ºC she calmed down.
But not since we bought a house that had an attached heated garage, no.
FWIW, think about protecting the new shop annex floor with some 8 x 4 sheets of 1/4" aspenite, just to preserve the house resale value.

Ya. I was thinking about the floor. There's not going to be any used or greasy parts going on. All degreasing WILL be done in the garage. Everything will be new or rebuilt and painted. But I'm sure it's a good idea to protect the floor with something just in case I drop something.

If Aspenite is the same thing as cardboard,,, I'm covered. :D

Sorry but two one car garages under the house and a basement area next to them with a wood burner. Only one garage has a car, the other is exclusively the MC shop. All the wood is cut split and in the racks for the next three years heating seasons.
I rebuilt a Norton in the living room once, many years ago.

I bet you need a new room sized area rug for your living room don't you? When I replace mine the old one goes directly to the shop. Makes a good work mat. When it gets too funky for the garage it gets thrown out!

Damn Gary. I forgot all about me having a little wood burner buried right in the corner of the garage.

Well. It's just the stove. I'd have to buy all the stuff to hook it up. Not really interested in doing that right now.

Plus now that I have a spare room, me and the cat is having a ball. Me working on the bike. And her sniffing and pawing all the new stuff in the house.

Sorry to hear about your mom, I keep my bikes in the garage, but no heat out there. trying this year to get heat so I can be working on them over winter. still riding until I can't.

81 sportster I'm building for a friend in my living room, Im rebuilding my 74XS650 motor in the kitchen as we speak. I talked the wife into letting me convert half the livingroom into shop space for the winter. I do any grinding in the basement. Plan was to have the summer kitchen converted into a proper shop, had it gutted to the dirt floor, but bills got in the way of buying lumber and now it likely to have to wait till next year.

Why anyone would marry someone whos opposed to motorcycles in the house is beyond me.

We agree no motorcycles AND no horses upstairs.....

Just a reminder no wood heat in a garage, EVER. Code and your insurance company really get upset about that.

My stove is in the basement, I open the steel walk through door between to let the heat move around when I'm in the garage. The garages are well insulated and seldom go below 50 even mid winter. Wish the overhead doors sealed tighter though.

Yeah I'm an idiot, I throw carb cleaner rags in the stove's top door. It really likes them...

Hi Cal when I first got my bike my wife sold it thinking it was scrap i got on trade. When I got it back I brought in the house I just spent $11,000 remodeling, new Hickory floors ect. and I spread it out through the living room and dining room parts every where for a month or 2 until kids started to get into everything then i just took it to my warehouse.Man she will never sell anything again with out asking me.

Well I scored a nice piece of carpet for $10. But I paid dearly for it.

I check out craigslist for some something free. Everything was trash. So I looked in the for sale section. Man they wanted new price for used stuff. Screw that. I'll use cardboard.

So I see one that says "Nice 12x12 Buorbor carpet. $10." I thought surely that's a misprint and it's $100 if it's nice. So I read the ad and he has "TEN" typed out.

So I call the guy and he said they just moved and the real estate agent that sold their house insisted they remove the carpet to show off the hardwood floors. Well he said it wasn't that old and he thought someone (like me) could use it.

So I get their and it's nice. And he was really nice too. I spent an hour there talking about everything including life in general. He actually GAVE me a bunch of other stuff too.

So I get going and receive a text about a sand blast cabinet that I had posted a wanted ad for. So I pull over to reply. I pulled over right where the mail man does in front of a mail box. All the sudden the front end drops out from under me on one side. I damn near fell into the passenger seat.

I thought I broke a ball joint. So I get out and look and I'm in a sink hole. Down to the frame. So I call a tow company and as soon as they heard down to the frame they wanted $150 for winching equipment. :( Well I don't have that kind of cash right now.

So by the time I sat there for 3 hours waiting for help, I could see the water really starting to run. I guess a water line broke and caused the sink hole. I'll probably get sued for damages. Luckily I was able to get a hold of a friend of man sons who has a 4wd. He came and got me out. He hooked on and it came right out. I was relieved, but pissed at the same time. Hell. I could have pulled it out with a bike. He wouldn't take any money at first. But I made him take at least $10 for gas.

It turned out. I got a good amount of stuff fot $10. But lots of aggravation. And I did score a nice sand blast cabinet too. And all in the same day.

Check it out.

Ya. I guess I deserved that one. When I was just in the hospital and found out I had the big "C" I cursed the big guy, threw something at the wall, and asked him what the fu*k else ya gonna do to me.

I guess he showed me.

Lesson learned. It's ok to have a hissy fit. BUT DON'T CURSE THE BIG GUY.
