anybody have a really good springer that they are happy with? heard good and bad about the bounce and handling! want to get one for my 72 frame/neck with a 71 i (think) drum brake spoked wheel. also i want it 6 over. can any companys fit them to certain specs?

Handling and springer are far from synonymous, but everything is by perspective.

I would recommend modifying the neck to accept Harley trees, that way you can just buy a +4 over springer of the type you choose. More options available that way.

...springers have much less change in trail during cycling. A proper springer for a given bike is an upgrade in handling over telescopics.

you might have a argument if actually having a shock was popular on springers. you can tout geometry all you want and sound like the egghead in the corner office but on the road a single bump without a shock negates all that.

Don't get me wrong, I love a springer front end, but its not for a handling upgrade.

........clearly you don't know how a springer works and have never ridden one that's setup correctly with the proper spring rate ratios on the compression and rebound springs...

egghead.

Also, the op hasn't mentioned anything about other mods he has/has planned to his bike that affect handling.

BTW- how does one "mod the neck" to accept trees? Kind of a funny way to put it considering the best way to run a narrowglide or the like on an xs doesn't modify the neck at all...
