What have you done to your XS today?

Began to hammer out a new form to the saddle. Sat on it and I think it's gonna be very comfortable when it's done.

I've been working on the license plate mount. As I've told all ready the license plates we have here in Denmark are rediculous big compared to many other places and it can ruin a clean nice build. So I had to come up with something that would work out.

Thanks Carbon ;) appreciate that. I've been thinking a lot about this plate and didn't want to mount it to the mudguard and side mounted isn't allowed by the law, so had to be like this and it turned out Ok at least that's done now.

ive been thinking about doing something similar, are you not worried it will slip down under vibration and end up under your wheel?

Actially no, cause its mounted on the rear wheel axle and if it comes loose worse things will happen.

Its sturdy and fixated I think.

To mount it I had to rmove the axle and grind down the spacers on the adjusters for the chain and wheel allignments.. Removed 4mm and the supplied license plate mount were 5mm

;)

Hi vsop,
Gawdalmighty, that ain't a plate, that's an airplane dive brake!
Congratulations on your elegant solution.
BTW, where did you find your fully clad rear shocks, there was a recent post from someone wanting a pair?

Took the 'ol SG out for a breakfast run to Carl's jr. Took the long way to and from, of course.

Fredintoon I got them at a German xs650 parts dealer. He had the harley shocks laying.

And yes it's an airplane dive brake ;) Hehe.... Actually hate it for being this big and awful looking.

Did the breakfast run again. Went to a car show and a engine and tractor show. Last and not least an Air show

Chopped the new TC Bros hardtail off and started to build my own, Ardcore style.

Connected a ground wire, replaced my coil, connected battery, hooked up a gas line to my carb (2 into 1counter balance intake), choked and kicked one time and wow, it fired after 3 years being dormant. Second kick it cranked and ran for about 15 seconds. I added some more gas and kicked it again. Fired right up but was smoking and skipping fairly bad. I let it run for about 5 minutes in the idle side before turning off. I let it set for 15 minutes and fired it up again. BINGO, the valves finally seated and ran a lot smother and no smoke! Very happy! Complete stocked 80 engine!
I have some small items like brake hookups front and rear. Then I should be on the road!

Connected a temporary voltmeter to see how it charges during operation... 13 volts at idle, and 15.5-16 at 3000rpms! Yikes... So did some adjusting and got it to 12.2-4 at idle, 13.7-14 at 3000 and 14.5-8 at 4000... Seems good to me.

Hi Hawkeye,
oh yes, put temptation behind you! Fix the brakes BEFORE you take the test ride, eh?

Picked up my tank from the welder and sanded the weld a bit. I then went for a short ride.
P.S. I did put a black tool dip coating over the welded area and waxed my tank with a good carnuba wax.
