Hey I got a choice between a bike with 17000 miles mint condition and a bike that's kinda older looking with 43000 miles on her. The older one has trouble starting but runs (prolly carbs need cleaning). The older one is 1000 dollars cheaper. But just not sure about it. What do you guys think? How long should these motors last?

With the proper care and feeding, you will occasionally hear about one of these going near 100,000 miles without any major work. But the key phrases here are "with proper care ..." and "occasionally". Most never make it anywhere near that far because they're not taken care of. The 43K example probably needs much more than just a carb cleaning. On the other hand, these being 30+ year old machines, most are in need of a topend refresh even if they are good looking from the outside.

Just one guy talking, but if they are a grand apart I hope you are looking at something like 500 versus 1500, or not much more.

Yea ace thse were the prices I chose the cheaper one cuz this is my project bike. I mean it starts up and rides fine but definitely needs a tune up.
