I cannot get the rear brake switch to activate my brake light. I've crossed the wires and the light works, so I think I need to replace the switch. I've tried adjusting it, but that didn't work. What should I remove to make the job easier? If anyone has changed the rear brake switch, please give me some good tips.

Is the switch a new one from Fla.
If so the spring is your problem.
Use the old spring.

I just changed the rear brake switch on my 81.
Nothing to remove to make easier. Loosen the two nuts up so you can lift it out of the bracket. Look inside as best you can, push down on pedal to unhook the spring.
On my new switch the new spring was too long, I used the old spring. Reverse the steps to install.
Adjust as needed.

You can take the switch all apart and clean it inside. They get all corroded up and stop working. Once you take the spring off the little plunger, all the guts will pull out the other end. It's a stone ax simple switch.
