Full disclosure; they are not the same bike.

.

Do you mean that you were telling us porky pies gggary :wink2:

and there was me about to wax lyrical on how fantastic it is to see such living History

How is 'madness' ? these days . I still play that vid occasionally just so that I can hear how they are supposed to sound when they are on-song.....

What up fellas. Well I finally got my hands on a 1980 XS650. Got to say she rides pretty good. Gonna be a good summer. I want some forward controls on her eventually maybe some new handle bars and repaint the tank blue. Let me know how she looks.

Looks like a nice, clean original, Sammo.

I would have a peek at the plugs tho. Those air filters are famous for screwing up the jetting on the BS-series carbs.

I'm finally satisfied enough with the bike enough to post an update:

Done:

Head Gasket (which led to rings, rear cam guide, two new valves)
One piece braided brake line
Scrambler style handlebars
Voltmeter
Headlight stone guard
Tail Box (converted an Army First Aid kit with waterproof lid)
Pamco E-Ignition with high output coil kit
RFY Shocks (+1" over stock height)
Progressive fork springs (upped oil to 7 ounces of 15w)
Heidenau K60 tires front and rear

To Do:
Research muffler options, want something a little throatier than the Harley mufflers.
Figure out how to adjust rear brake pedal to get more leverage.

Fleksta can you post a video of what the bike sounds like?

Finally have a clip for you guys:

They sound pretty good, but I'd like them to have a deeper/throatier note.

Not mine regretably but one of Richard Pollark (Mule Motorcycles) creations .
This machine is just jaw droppingly beautiful and I so want one :bike:

The bike started life as an 81 XS650. My buddy and I spent the last year building the bike and took our time. The frame features a weld on hard tail kit by TC Bros. I had the frame powder coated in a light gold. The wheels are aluminum 19" motorcross anodized red. The forks are stock and have been rebuilt. I added an external oil filter and used braided lines with AN fittings. Everything was welded professionally with quality and aesthetics in mind. The tank is an original British Wassell and was painted professionally by Manny's Fineline in Oklahoma City. It has a silver base coat with tons of metal flake and hand laid gold flake flames.
