Don't look as cool but handles much better at slow speeds.

looks great Dave. Looks a lot more comfortable with those bars. I really hate the look of my 70's special bars but I have to say they sure are perfect for cruisin , nice and easy :bike:

Been a long time since I've been on this site. Anyways, got my bike running about as good as I think I can. It sure took a while.

Thanks to all for the great feedback it is appreciated :) the fork brace was on the bike when purchaced i just stripped the black paint of.

The story of this build, its from the heart

Hi this is my bike; Cafe racer Called Jymi two whiskey, in memory of my old dad.
I purchased a donor bike in January this year.
Plan was to transform the bike into a cafe racer to maintain the aged patina but to also capture the old school look based on what was done in the 60s. The birth of the modern day sports bike.

Choice of bike was important it had to be a twin cylinder Bike and as the XS650 Engine was copied from the Triumph Bonneville which was the iconic bike of the day. I also wanted a bike that would do the Ton but with enough evolution in it initial manufacture design to do this safely.

I feel that what I have achieved in my restoration rebuild is in essence what the boys back in the day did, I have achieved the look and performance needed to be able to call the bike a café racer from may small garage at home as they did in the 50s and 60s

The engine is now a 707cc re built professionally by Smed Speed London, as like any bike the heart of the machine has to be spot on the parts inside the engine are all new and improved, race spec, the Engine has an oil filter conversion which aids oil cooling and is a standard 360 degree engine not rephrased.

Fuel system, I am running standard Mikuni Bs34s tuned and balanced by me, I have converted the old points system to electronic ignition Pamco with a high voltage coil as the bike are renowned for weak spark and electrical issues. I fitted a new improved rectifier/regulator to assist in the electronics and improve reliability.

Stock suspension with slightly stiffer rear shocks. Brakes system is stock but with stainless pistons in the rebuilt callipers all stripped to bare Ally and clear coated, and of course braided lines.
Stock gearing with 17/33 sprocket set
Clubmen handle bars and grips with period mirrors bar end.
Fuel tank painted by me Flame red with tint clear coat.

I have stripped all the alloy parts of the black paint and powder coat, to capture what I feel is the right look and I feel I have achieved the aggressive sporty look of the café racer era, in this 1980s classic bike. All done from my suburban garage and basic tools some hard work and a good few pounds.
It proves and shows that anyone can have there dream bike if they put some effort in and time I will keep this bike as its what I have dreamed of owning for a long time. Dedicated to my late DAD Andy who inspired this project and was a original café racer in the 50 and 60s R.I.P

I would also like the thank all the memebers of this forum who have offered good advise and steadfast and hard earned knowledge to me when i have hit the brick wall, never did any of you laugh or made me feel stupid. I felt that i could ask any question and that help would be there the next time i log in, you are all great people I really mean that Thanks to all ,5Twins, Pamcopete, retieredGentalman XSLeo Peanut, GGGgary Just to name a few Thanks Dudes you are awsome.
All the best Funky
