Hey joe 78xs---Chill out man thats no way to try to get some help.....tim

Pete, just curious if there is a e-advancer in the pipeline for rephased set ups?

One has been made and developed, but I wouldn't ever expect one of those to go into full production. There was a thread a while back where Pete went into some detail on the downside of the rephased e-advancer. Pete told me he sent one to I am Carbon who tested it out and it worked... but here's the thing... there are 16 ways to wire up the rephase pamco by itself, 15 of which are wrong... add the e-advancer for it and those 16 ways gets multiplied by a factor of... idk what.... I think it was 4

Considering the time Pete's put into helping people figure out why their pamco isn't right... misaligned cam or one of those 15 wrong ways etc... I suspect it could prove a major headache unravelling 63 possible build errors assuming the factor was only 4.
64 ways to wire it and only 1 is correct.:yikes:

Installed Pamco E-advancer on a 1975 XS650B.. Bike Ran Well up to about 4000rpm.. Started missing back firing.. Checked Timing Good at 1000rpm ,
but NO Advance.. Checked every thing still No Advance... Got a Standard Pamco & re-installed ATU.. Bike Rides Great.. Will throw E-advancer into Dust Bin.

Nice first post.....Trevor Wait.........Maybe it should be Trevor impatience;)............... He does have a warranty on his parts. UP to 2 years...........Does this sound like someone who is selling substandard work

I'm quite Happy that I spent more money to get the Standard Pamco... I don't want a warranty.. I'm happy that the Bike works great with the Mech. Advance.
Pete's been Great... Thanks for the reply

Trevor,
I'm sorry to hear of your recent experience with the PAMCO E-Advancer. All of our products are tested prior to shipping, so it's possible that some other issue may have caused your problem:
1. You mentioned access to a standard PAMCO. If that was a older model with the 90 degree rotor, then you would experience the
"no advance" that you reported. The E-Advancer requires a 60 degree rotor.
2. The standard PAMCO can operate down to 6 Volts wheres the E-Advancer needs at least 9 Volts. If the available power was low, then the E-Advancer would operate in an unpredictable manner. This could also be caused by dirty contacts on the ignition switch or kill switch.
3. If you used a timing light with a preset advance feature, then it should be set to "0" degrees preset.
4. One of the spark plug wires is a positive Voltage. The timing light will not be reliable with a positive Voltage. Try the other spark plug wire.
5. If you have a high idle when setting the timing, some or all of the available advance could be used up resulting in no advance at higher RPMs.
Pete

Here is my $.02. The PAMCO w/ E-Advance along with the Elephant feet valve adjusters are the 3 best mods one can do to any XS 650 to make it almost maint. free . Other than oil and filter changes and the other normal wear and tear things.

Well I know this is an old thread but it’s getting some new life, so I’ll chime in. When I went through my ‘77, I had installed the Pamco Ultimate High Output package and it worked great, but I still had the mechanical advance and even though I went through it and cleaned and lubed everything , I was getting inconsistent timing advance.
So I added the E- Advance and instant stability. Well worth it and highly recommended.

I got a Complete E-advancer Kit #200-2905 from Mikes.. Installed as per PAMCO website.. Included a 7.5Amp Fuse in Battery Feed to Coil/E-advancerBox.. Voltage 11.85-1.9...Changing at 14.1 Volts at 3500RPM.. The 3 Pins are there.. Idle Adjusted at 1000Rpm between the 2 fire Marks.. Bikes runs Greatup to about 3500rpm then backfires... Old type Timing Light used.. No Advance at All. Checked tricks I found in the XS650 Forum .. Still no Advance. So I ordered a New Standard PAMCO from XS650.com in September for US$79.95 which has a 60 degree Rotor.. Installed the Mech. Advance Unit , Timed between the 2 F marks at 1000rpm.. using same Timing Light on the L/H Lead... Advances as it should.. Have Ridden bike for over 500 miles with No Problems... I'm happy Now..
Thanks For the Support..

A needed note here: that Mikes part # is NOT a PAMCO, Please spread the word that the MikesXS parts are no longer Pamco! If you want pamco; order from http://www.yamahaxs650.com/

Well that is just sad to see. So much of the information they host is right from Pete's site (text and images). Now if the design itself has been ripped off. Suppose some PMA items suggest they don't mind that business approach.
