Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone runs the motul 5100 in their XS650's? Either the 10w50 or the 10w40. Reason for asking is that i already run it in one of my dirtbikes so it'll be easier to buy in bulk. Thanks in advance

I did use it in a kz650 I had. I did run it in my xs650 a bit too. No problems from it. Sure makes shifting nice. Decided I like less clatter from the top and just use 20w50. That Motul in my versys kept shifting buttery smooth for 6000kms on a long road trip out east. Impressive oil.

I would use the 50 in your yam.

The 10w oil are a bit light, 20w are better. The first number is the base weight oil, then they put in additives to make it act like an oil of the second numbers weight. Better to start with a 20w base oil.
Some Synthetic oils that are rated as 20w50 are a 50 weight oil, but being a synthetic they flow like a 20 weight, so no additives for that.
They are just too expensive for day to day use in our XS650's.

I've run Rotella 15W40 in my XS650 previously, but I run straight 50 in my antique chopper.

Rotella currently has changed its formula due to diesel engines falling under emmisions so I can't recommend it anymore either.

A proper motorcycle 20-50 would be right.
